7 Days?
definitely not seven days unless you're a pro and even then they still take a rest day at some point (doing maybe a 8 or 9 day training cycle instead)
you need a day off...
i think you'll find out from the ironmen & women here that they do two-a-days to get the miles in on a seven day cycle (one day rest in there!)
Most programs are 6 days with a rest day. Lie you are doing a few will have two a days be they a swim and a run or bike or strength and run type days.
Regarding your losing fitness if you don't run - not reallhy an issue if you are swimming and biking as well - your aerobic system is still being trained. Physiological adaptation needs rest to gain strength and endurance.
Depending on your base fitness doing an IM in a couple of years is certainly feasible. Take a look at some books on triathlon training to help you structure a plan.
Vanjames, would there be any specific books that I should look at?
Thanks for the suggestions guys. This should help a lot.
Three very good books.
Going Long by Joe Friel and Grdo Byrn - for IM distance.
Triathletes training bible - I don't have it but eeryone else swears y it.
Multisport training plans by Gale Bernhardt - has programs ranging from sprint to Ironman, Xterra and Duathlons.
Those would be my suggestions. There are others but I think you'll find most of what you need in these.

I've been wondering how many days I should be working out? I've heard that its important to have a certain amount of rest days, but I've also heard that in running if you miss a day, you lose a lot of what you've gained. Right now I'm training 6 days a week with 4 of those days with 2 workouts.
I would like to do an IM in a couple years and am starting to try to put more miles and increase endurance.
Essentially, my question is, how many times a week should I work out?
