Im torn in that I'd like to change to bike shorts and then change to just some running shorts in T1 and T2. But there are no changing tents at this 1/2.. I usuall use my one piece trisuit for Oly and less but this is my first 1/2. Am I going to regret it if I wear just my trisuit for the entire thing. mainly the bike??

Any ideas on what you guys wear on 1/2 distances?

Thanks

I wear my tri top and bottoms for the entire race (Full IM). I have arm warmers for the run should I be out beyond the sun.

If your bike fit is good you should be ok. You could always get a "long distance saddle" such as the Selle Aspide or softer saddles. personally I haven't had any issues, and you'll save more time in T1 than changin dry shorts onto wet legs.

I had the same concerns last year. My tri shorts were fine on the bike and on the run. I never even thought about not having on bike shorts. Do a few longer rides and runs in them before your race.

you can also get a cushioned seat cover - i have one from elite bicycles that was fairly inexpensive (about $15) and it makes up for the thinner chamois.

Same here. I did my first 1/2 last year in my tri shorts and top and felt fine from a clothing perspective. Good luck on your first half.

My seat cover was one of the best things I have ever bought for my bike, they are neoprene so they fit tight on the seat and don't move around. The 4 or 5 mm of neoprene makes a huge difference.

I only wore my tri top and bottom on the HIM. I wouldn't worry about changing and with no changing tent available it is kinda a mute point I think.

do you guys swim with the tri top on or just put it on in T1? does the pocket in the back drag?

Under the wetsuit. If I were in a nonwetsuit swim I would look at getting a swim skin.

Get soaking wet and try to put on a tight tri top....takes a lot of time.I've done HIM in trishorts anf IM too...but I spend a good bit of time on the bike...and am used to the saddle...
My personal experience with trisuits for HIM is...don't zippers break and potty stops can be a hassle, although some folks swear by suits at any distance...I'd opt for shorts and seperate top.

I worried initially about pocket drag myself. Turns out that if you're in a top with a tight pocket (ala race top versus something with a cyling jersey type pocket, it'll just get stretched flat against your body.

I have done only a few races where I swam in my trifuel top (very short pool swims in local sprints) and I actually could feel some drag. Part from the pocket, and i think some from the neckline. Part might also be that I think mine is a bit big for me right now (I'm not complaining though!).

The 1/2IM I did last year, I wore my tri top and shorts under the wetsuit. In T1, took wetsuit off, and put some biking shorts on over my trishorts for extra padding. Then, in T2, I justtook off the biking shorts and ran.

I've worn underarmour lycra shorts under my bike shorts. can pull off your bike shorts and pull on your running shorts w/o flashing anyone.

Both IM 70.3 races I did where in a full tri suit from Skinfit and I realy urge you to try it. And the almost non-existent tri chamois might scare you at first ' how on earth am I gonna bike 56miles in this?'
I had NO proble, with it. Use a tri suit.
Just for the record, I have a Specialized Toupe saddle, not a fancy long course saddle I think, but comfortable.
Biked over 6.5 hours on it... No issues.

If one was to wear two pairs of shorts, wouldnt one pair of tri shorts be more efficient?

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
