Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional.
I'm a 36 year old father of five kids and I work as a firefighter. I've been doing some pretty serious getting back into shape during the last year or so and about two months ago my sister convinced me to try a triathlon. I've never been a great swimmer and I've never even owned a road bike, although I was at one point an above average two and three mile runner. Now, less than two months into training for my first sprint on June 23, I am completely hooked. I've gotten to that point where taking a day off makes me a cranky jerk. I'm selling my most prized possession - a 23 year old motorcycle I've been tearing apart and rebuilding as a hobby for four years - so I can by a new road bike (nothing fancy, something in the $750 to $1000 range).
At this point, I can't believe I didn't think of doing this sooner.
I am from Malden, MA. I will be doing 3-4 Sprints and my 1st Olympic this year. Good luck with everything.

Hey Tortoise...I'm a fellow newb offering salutations!
Best of luck in your training and pursuit of triathlon excellence ::thumbs up::
/side note: Another reason to love triathlon, Yankees fans offering Red Sox fans "good luck"....you'll never see it any where else in the world other than here. "Triathlon, bringing arch-rival fans together, one at a time" haha /end side note:
[FONT="Verdana"]If you've never fallen, how do you know what it's like to get back up?

Do you know which Olympic you are doing? I'm working my way up to an Olympic in late August or September.
