so i want to get a basic tri set up. but i am a grad student with not a ton of money to spend. any suggestions for a quality pair of shorts and top for a good price? i bought a pair of sugoi shorts last summer but they were too big for me (chafing = no fun).

A lot of it is personal preference.... I'm a fan of DeSoto and PearlIsumi shorts. If your college has a tri club or team, or if there is a local tri club, they often can get good deals on gear. So you might want to look into joining one of those.

I'll second the Pearl shorts, and also joining a club.

I've been a member of a club for two years now and the discounts have more than paid for the $35/year. And we've used clothing from Garneau and Capoforma. The Garneau stuff was some if the nicest bike/tri clothing I've had and was my favorite until I got the Capoforma stuff.
