Wildflower
I second this question - I've never done an event that has 2500 competing at once. I'm most concerned about how you avoid getting DQ'd for drafting on the bike if there is a big crowd and you catch up but don't have the room or oomph to pass. What do you do?

If you're being consistent with your power output, the draft will pull you along in front of them...almost always within the 15 seconds that you're allowed.
Big race advice:
-Show up extra early (less lines)
-Bring your own marker (no waiting for body-markers)
-Some people bring balloons for their rack, but I just make sure to look at where my bike is (several times to help remember) from the opening of transistion and I never have trouble remembering.
-Know your wave start (it might be two hours after the start of the race)
-Show up early anyway b/c they'll close transition
-Bring a trainer to warm-up if you need it, since the bike can't come out of transistion on race morning.
I probably left some stuff out, but I hope this helps.

Not fast enough.
Well I wasn't planning on doing Wildflower this year, couldn't decide if I wanted to after Oceanside, but that just changed. I got a phone call about an hour ago asking me to ride the bike leg of the long course. Some teammates of mine are doing a relay and their cyclist has the flu. They know I'm going to check out the expo and figured hey, Sean can ride for us. Of course I agreed. Now the wife is pissed as she will have to deal with the kids by herself while I ride. See everyone on the road.
I should be there. As I type, I'm laying in bed trying to get rid of this terrible cold so I can race. But we'll see.
Advice:
Find a camping spot (bring something like an easy up for shade, and lots of padding)
Last year was HOT - lots of sodium, and fuel.
As UF said, use something to find your bike
I always self-seed myself in my wave start, off to the side.
Have your bike in the easiest gear possible, Lynch is a BIG hill.
Just make sure you don't draft on the bike for more that 15sec, you'll be fine!
Enjoy the naked station on the run, put on by us Cal Poly students, haha.

Ah tell me more of this naked station. Seriously that could case a few wrecks if the women are hot. If it's just men it could cause wrecks as well since the guys would be pointedly trying not to look.
From what I heard they're cracking down on it, but thats just a rumor. Looking at the weather report its probably going to be mid 70's, good temp for racing.
Eh, the naked station is unstoppable. Cal Poly students are what makes the race possible, with over 300 volunteers, its a madhouse. TriCal has a stick up their arse, and tries to regulate more than they should. This is why Jamba Juice is no longer a sponsor. The naked station should be there, last year it wasn't that impressive. Haha. But nah, no wrecks on the run, maybe traffic jams, but no wrecks ;p.

Just curious if anyone else is doing Wildflower this year? Its going to be my first tri with more than 500 or so people competeing. Is there anything different I need to think about/plan for with so many more people?
