too much too soon????

I'm doing my 1st tri (have not done 1 since 2004) of the season. I'm very excited! It is a sprint tri, (in 23 days) 1/3m swim 15m bike 3.25m run. Ok sounds easy enough....right???? I just started walking/jogging last fri & I actually did 3.6 miles. I was very strong throughout & felt very challenged. So, I gave myself the weekend to recover. Monday I did 3.25 miles & felt great.
I just got a road bike w/ the clipless pedals & let's just say I was on the concrete more than the bike.:{ I'm nervous w/ the bike leg b/c I'm trying to get used to something that's totally foreign to me.
The swim part I was really nervous about, but I just found a park that has an olympic size pool. After all that..... I feel so worried that I won't be able to pull it all together in time.
Do you guys think 23 days is enough time to get it together?? Could yall give me a few sample workouts so that I can gain a little perspective on what would be appropriate? I don't want to overdo it & get hurt however, at the same time I'm not totally out of shape & like working towards this goal.

Not sure what your base level of fitness is but if you are just trying to finish then you may be able to do it.

From what you have said swimming may be your confidence limiter, I'd work on feeling comfortable there as you have already walked the distance. Have you ridden it? Is your swim a pool swim or open water? If the latter you should spend 1-2 swims in open water to build your confidence there.

Realistically you should be doing at a minimum 6 workouts a week - this could be 1 of each discipline each day with off. Try to do a ride then a run/walk immediately after for 10-20mins a couple of times at least between now and your race.

Well thanx vanjames!! Man, that sure gives me a little insight. My swim is an open water swim. And sadly I have not made much distance on my bike. But I'm planning on getting some miles in this afternoon...weather permitting:}

My plan is similar to what you are saying....monday-walk/jog tuesday-bike wednesday-swim & run thursday-bike friday-walk/jog saturday-swim, bike & walk/jog sunday- hallelujah....off

So, how does that sound???? Sweeeet, I feel better all ready:}

Weather looks good, even if its bad, you need to get training in!

Have you open water swam before? What tyoe fo wateris your race in - lake, ocean, river?

the swim is in the gulf of mexico. Your right I do need to get a train in....but the stationary bike isn't the same as a road bike. I just don't find it to be a workout even. But I could switch it around and do a run on the treadmil.

You'll get used to the clipless pedals in no time. Practice practice practice. Plus if you're going to fall, at least no other triathlete is gonna really care--happens to all of us (happened to me at my first tri after not having fallen off my bike for years).

You'll be fine for the distance. Just make sure you don't overdo it and injure yourself. Run, bike and swim till you feel pain coming on....stop for a few minutes and then start up again....if you still feel the pain then it's time to stop and rest for a day. With only 23 days an injury is probably the only thing that would prevent you from finishing, so be careful. Run on a treadmill or trail (stay off the concrete) and make sure your shoes aren't from your 2004 season!
