I've just started running again about 3 weeks ago after training hard on the bike the last 4 months with my college cycling team. right now i am in the base phase of my workout. The intensities i've been running having been slow ( zone 2 at the most). anyway the last few times i've ran i've had a sore groin near my right leg for about a day afterwards. anyone know what could be causing this problem? It's not like i've been running too hard.
I had something like this when i started. I started spending a good 15 minutes pre-run stretching with a lot of focus on the sore area. that seemed to work for me.
If it's your general inner thigh area, know that cycling is VERY adductor-intensive, so doing intense cycling can overwork them, and then since running also relies on those muscles, you are finding out just how overworked they are.
You MAY need to do actual adductor strengthening exercise (I do), as your adductors may be weak. Or, they may just be overly tight, in which case some good stretching will help. Or, they may be riddled with trigger points, in which case good sports massage will help or else work on yourself (The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook shows you how).
Sometimes my inner thighs are a bit sore after a really long ride, like when I do 200K+ or lots of climbing.
But if they are achey for several days, then you need some combination of the things I mentioned above.
Last thing--what type of pedals are on your bike? Since I recently got Dura Ace SPD's on my new road bike, I find that having my legs more "locked in" puts less stress on my adductors, whereas the Speedplay pedals force me to stabilize my legs myself.
