I had intended (emphasis on the past tense) to do my first OLY ever on June 16 --Johan's Tri Fest in Hopkins, MI. But, I'm not going to be ready as work is kicking my butt these days and I just haven't been good about getting in long bikes or runs. So I am thinking of pushing my first OLY back --any suggestions on good races in MI later in mid-summer? I think it would be a rip to do an OLY in Lake MI, which could be Grand Haven or Ludington. Anybody do either of those?

My other two definite races are sprint distances --1 in mid-July, one in early Sept, both in or close to Grand Rapids.

Thanks for the input.

I did Ludington last year it was great. The swim was a little short but it was very cool, we had to wait for the SS Badger to leave the harbor before starting. It's a small race but very well organized flat and fast course.

this is probably a bit early, but the motor city race last year was very well done. swim was in the detroit river (a very nice swim), flat and fast bike around belle isle, and a flat and fast run through the interior of the island. i believe it is around june 25 this year.

Thanks for the feedback guys. CG, how crowded was the Detroit tri? I thought about that one --I will put it on the list for 2008?

And the swim in the Detroit River was ok --fairly "clean"?

I used to run and roller blade on Belle Isle so I imagine the bike would be pretty fast.

Thanks again!

It was not very crowded at all. i think because it was the first time the event was held the turnout was a bit lower than they would have liked. The swim was actually really nice. Warm water (76 i think), sandy bottom and it was protected from the current of the river for the most part. I expected gross water, and possibly a used diaper or something to float across my face, but it was good.

If your gonna do Tri's in MI, you gotta hit the big water. Lake MI Tri's are great. Grand Haven, Ludington, St.Joes, are all great races.

For little travel, the Stony Creek Metro Tri is great in September.

Lots of races in the state, but they are all crammed into three months.
