I'm fairly new to triathlons (a couple sprints last year and will do an Oly this summer).... I live in Southern Chester County PA and was wondering where people go for open water swim practice?? I'm anxious to get out but don't know where to go.... It looks like Lums Pond has no swimming... so is it the Chesapeake??? thanks in advance

Are you racing at Lums this year? Which races did you do last year?

Not aware of any open water swims in the area right now. I know that CGI (cgiracing.com) has some in south NJ.

Have you checked out Guy's Racing(www.guysmultisportclub.com)? They're a good sized club, they may have something going.

Thanks for the info. If anyone is interested I plan do go out in the Chesapeake (Bohemia Bay) this summer (swim from a boat) a couple times a week. It's pretty calm especially in the evening.

Jamie M I might do Lums but I'm signed up for the Northeast triathlon right now..... looking for something early in the season- what about the Middletown sprint- (St Andrews?)

Last year I did a sprint in NJ (forget the name- in Mays Landing), The Fox Run Duo and a tri in Wildwood NJ.

I'm signed up for the St. Andrews tri. I haven't done it before, but I've heard good things. It usually sells out early since they limit the field to 250, so I didn't get in last year.

And Fox Run is actually put on by my club (First State Velo Sport). I'll probably either volunteer or race that one this year.

a little late reply ...I'm not sure how far you are from Gunpowder Falls State Park but that's a great place for some open water swim practice. Especially if you take a partner and get there before the life guards. That way you can swim on the other side of the ropes. Up and back is about 1000 yards. On the 29th of July my triathlon club is hosting a swim, bike, run workout at 9:00 am. Hope this late advice is useful.:)
