Boston Race Report And Recovering
I'm wondering what you would all recomend to let this running injury heal, what to do for recovery from Boston, given my physical need, and how to address this problem.
Tons of ice and massage. Take ibuprofen. And congrats on finishing a really nasty BM!`(double entendre? of course not! I really didn't realize that until after I wrote it, but now I can't stop laughing like a 3rd grader:D )

Not fast enough.
Congrats on the finish! :)
But now I have to resume physical therapy for an inflammed muscle on my medial right calf. I had heavily tapered, to ensure the best recovery I could. It started hurting at around mile 3, never getting any worse, but eventually going rather painless (probably numb)This was my last major race for the next few weeks, so I'm wondering what you would all recomend to let this running injury heal, what to do for recovery from Boston, given my physical need, and how to address this problem.
By last major race for a few weeks, are you working towards anything specific that you can't miss or is it basically a continuation of the season?
For healing the running injury, I'd say lay off racing for the time it takes to fully heal, and listen to your PT
"Care more than others think is wise, risk more than others think is safe, dream more than others think is practical, expect more than others think is possible."
Any goals Al? If not then the basic, time tested, but often ignored rule is...One easy or rest day for every mile of the race.
Easy means easy and rest means off.

Hey All
Thanks for the posts. I'm just going easy for a few weeks. No more than an hour in Zones 1 and 2 for elliptical, pool, and bike.
I'm considering calling my active release therapist, they helped me out alot in the fall.
Will keep you posted. Just working on recovery now.

Al,
Take it easy for the next few weeks. The conditions weren't great but you did a nice job. I had a great time and will post my report when I have the chance.

I finished Boston, and until mile 16 (when the Newton hills begin) I was on time for a PR.
My nutrtition was about 70% right. Some of the GU and the Endurance formula did not settle as I had wished. But I realized later that this helped me in the later miles, to have the hydration I needed.
At mile 15, despite the rain and headwinds that preceeded that point, I was on pace for a 3:45. Albeit, my PR is 3:38:09, I really thought I could pick up time after the hills were over.
Because I'm so tall, and I didn't train adequately for the hills, I lost alot of my original pace. I ended up finishing in 4:06:01. Not my best time, nor my worst at Boston.
But now I have to resume physical therapy for an inflammed muscle on my medial right calf. I had heavily tapered, to ensure the best recovery I could. It started hurting at around mile 3, never getting any worse, but eventually going rather painless (probably numb)
