Being a fumble-finger, is there a way to easily switch from the bike mode to run mode on the Polar S625X?

I had hoped that the watch would automatically pick up the new data from the foot pod and switch from bike mode to run mode. No such luck...unless I've set the thing up incorrectly...which is very possible since user manuals on these things are far from user friendly IMHO.

I'd be interested to see if its possible as well, although I have tried and it doesn't work so when using in a race I leave it in run speed mode and have a bike computer for the bike stuff.

From Polar's website:

Swapping the Speed Settings (--, ru, b1 or b2)
In the Measuring mode press and hold the down button. Release. Repeat until Run speed, Bike 1 or 2 or Speed Off is displayed. You can now exercise with the chosen settings. From running to cycling and vice versa can be swapped in the BasicUse (E0) mode, if the exercise is paused. A new file is created if you change the speed settings.

Personally, I've just been doing the Options > Speed Set > Run commands, but I haven't used the Polar in a short race yet so I may have to check out the shortcut to see if it works.

PJT,

Thanks. Good info.

I'll see if I can handle this during the race this weekend.

I can't tell you how many times I've meant to pause the exercise while I'm waiting for traffic, etc. at an intersection, and end up stopping the exercise because I've hit the stop button one too many times (once to pause; twice to stop measuring).

Frustrating.

It would be nice if Polar designed the system to automatically switch modes when the signal from the bike cadence and speed sensors stopped and a new signal from the foot pod kicked in.

Hak,

Agreed on both counts -- I reset my workouts constantly and really wish the computer could just figure out if I'm biking/running based on which sensors it is picking up.

(I am also a maestro at hitting the pause button at a stoplight and remembering to hit start again about 5 miles down the road. But I can't blame Polar for that.)

so do you guys use the foot pod in a tri? I've just got one and would use it in a run only race, but didn't think about using it in a tri... would you just have the foot pod on your shoes ready to go?

I use my 625X all the time and its great..

To switch you have to pause your workout lower left button. Then hold the lower right button to switch sensors..

In a race I start out in Bike2, well both bike 1 and 2 are the same on mine. In T2 pause and then switch thru -- to run.

Hope it helps...

That's my plan. I purchased my Polar after last season and will just leave it powered on in the transition area. Hopefully no one will swipe it!

Does it require a HR reading? (i'm not wearing the strap so showing 00) as I'm trying it right now and it won't switch to run speed mode from bike mode even while paused. I can toggle between while in measuring mode before starting the timing but once the timing has started and then I pause - nope.

Yup. It does have to be in exercise mode to work. Just hit the red start button and it will work. I was able to switch exercise modes from run to bike without the strap.

I need to walk before running. Had I read the full thread from PJT i would have seen "basic use". Tried it it workss. Thanks - you just saved me from buying an expensive bike computer.

ACK!

Due to high winds yesterday, our triathlon turned into a duathlon of sorts.

After hopping off the bike and entering T1, I tried to pause the watch and switch from bike to run mode...to no avail.

At least that's what I thought I did.

I was just pushing buttons like crazy because it sure as heck didn't work as smoothly as it did when I practiced earlier in the week.:o

After a minute or so, I was able to get the mode switched over to run and started the timer.

Of course, the foot pod I had left on at the start of the race wasn't working. The battery must have died while I was on the bike.

Then, when I was done with the race, my clock function was WAY off. I was looking at the time from some other far away dimension, not the time in Las Vegas.

Who knows what the heck I did. I am a techno idiot!:(
