Ok well I have spent the day just basking in my happiness and since of overall coolness. Which brings me to a question... What do you all do post IM for the next few days? How do you indulge yourselve's after the race.

I personally have drank a Mojito and a Long Island and am sitting out here at the pool just living in my state of euphoria. Next week back into the grind and getting faster, bigger and stronger.

You feel like you have the flu for a week, the second week you feel like getting out and maybe doing a few miles, the third week you feel like you can get out and do some miles but then you quckly shut down despite feeling strong, fourth week - you are a full blown rocket ship again. Drink some more mojitos, give your body and mind a break and then get back in it!

So the few weeks post IM, you should follow the Mojito diet? And then slowly get back into the swing of things??

I think I could follow that diet. Does that also apply to Half IM's?

Josh - Enjoy your euphoria, Mojito's and IM status! You deserve it.

Congrats and relax...for now,Josh.
It's not uncommon for folks to take the week after an IM off...then come back slowly adding a little bit more in each week till they are at a maintenance level. Don't do any serious racing for a several weeks.
Don't make the mistake of going back to an IM training level if you have no IM's on the horizon...train for what is next on your race schedule. If you have nothing planned...plan something! You have a really good fitness level right now..use it!

Josh, enjoy reveling in your accomplishment...its what you've been working for and you deserve it! Do what you want and enjoy the down time....your mind and body will thank you. My post-IM plan is vacation in the Austrian Alps, including hiking, massage, lounging and FOOD! (I might try to fit in a Mojito as well!) I find that vacation after a big race is the best way to cope with the post-race blues. Congratulations again!

Dude, I had a few glasses of wine last night after a week of abstinance and accidently got loaded! I was so wasted I had to go to bed at 7, my wife was laughing! :)
I'm going to swim tomorrow and maybe do a nice easy ride later this week, NO RUNNING until next week, my Ironman friend. :)

Take it easy, and listen to the body! Make sure you are getting in food calories, too :)

After mine a few easy swims felt great, running needed a break, and it felt good to get on a bike again, although I did mostly shorter (20 or less) mile rides for a bit, if I remember right.

Oooh and a massage! :)

One thing I did starting in the weeks after the race was make time for active stuff that wasn't exactly training, but wasn't sitting on the couch either. Examples: riding the MTB, going on road rides with no HRM and no computer, taking some longer hikes with the dog, playing ultimate, etc. It was a good mental recharge. Well, that and the vacation to a tropical island. That was nice too. ;)

On my way home from the race, I picked up a McDonald's hamburger and ice cream cone. But by the time I got to the hotel, I was too sleepy to eat them, so they went in the fridge/freezer. At 1:30am, I woke up, absolutely starving, and ate them.

I gotta tell ya, dipping that hamburger into the ice cream was the best idea I've had in years. SO tasty, and highly recommended.

I think I just threw up in my mouth. Those things are meant to be seperate! McD's stuff doesnt deserve to be called "hamburger." Sonic and Hardeez/ Carl's Jrs on the other hand...

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

Cheesesteaks and pierogies. Vanilla milkshake and chocolate chip cookies. You'll feel like crap for an hour or two but it will be worth it.

I remember telling my wife 3 years ago a few weeks before my first tri(an Oly) that after the race, we were going to Wendy's to get me a triple cheeseburger. I felt so bad after the race that I just went straight home and slept for about three hours and when I woke up, I couldn't stand the thought of a triple cheeseburger. So we went to Sonic and I got a Butterfinger Blast. Yummy!

You guys have way better burgers than that already. It was a few years ago when I lived there, but there was a place on Pennsylvania Ave (I think) down by the beltway called Capitol Burgers (or something like that) and they were incredible! At the time, there were five of them in the DC area - sorry my memory is so vague, but I'm going to find that place again next time I'm in the area!

I am gonna check up on that. My favorite around here is in the burbs in Gainesville called Kirkpatricks.... The burgers are money :)

The day after the IM I went to a place in Scottsdale and I got a burger that was covered with crab and smoked gouda. Can some one say excessive :)
