Pool Running During Taper
Have you thought about biking instead of aqua running? I am not sure how much the aqua running will help you maintain your aerobic fitness but I would assume little to no benefit will come from it. With biking you will have minimal impact on your body allowing it to heal but you can still work your cardio system to a high enough level that you will maintain your base, etc.
Best of luck either way and be sure to post your race results!

Actually, aqua running has been shown to help running and aerobic fitness when incorporated into a regular program. They key is aqua running hard enough to produce the same benefits. It's easy to build up the heartbeat and break a sweat aqua running, but you can't lally dally around. Like most anywhere else, if it feels too easy, it's probably too easy.
For a maintenance run of 2-5 miles, simply start with 5 min or so of warmup in the pool and then aqua run for the same time period it would normally take you to run 2-5 miles. While you're running keep in mind that it's your turnover speed that equilibrates to the force you're pushing with your legs, rather than bodyweight/gravity/% incline of the terrain.
Another couple things. If you're allowed to, grab an old pair of (cleaned) sneakers and wear them. They'll help keep your ankles/feet in correct running alignment and provide a bit more resistance area. Also, make sure to keep good running form. It's easy to let yourself huntch over in the pool due to bouyancy...keep an eye on things.

Hey:
I was using the elliptical and the bike the last two weeks, and though I wouldn't receive any pain during or after the workouts, the soreness was not going away. Since completely resting, and implementing aqua-running, the leg has begun to heal much more swiftly.

I Believe In Cross Country

Hi All:
I’ve begun doing some aqua-running during my taper for Boston, to let a tissue injury heal. All my long runs are in, but to maximize healing, I’ve taken a few off-days, and am beginning some aqua-running.
If my taper schedule calls for maintenance runs of 2-5 miles, what should I am for in the pool, to equate running with pool?
Thanks.
