Need a little bike advice
For $100 I'd say you couldn't go wrong since slicks for the mtb will be the same amount if not more. As long as you trust the source and know there are no major issues with the bike (cracks in the frame, broken components, etc). If possible have it checked out by someone you trust who knows bikes well. And be ready for a few expenses on top of the price: pedals, probably a tune up, perhaps tires depending on how the ones it has are.
I have a great old trek I got for very cheap, and I am definitely happy I went for it.

A bike for a Ben? Yes!...sounds like a great starter bike and later on a wet weather/ride in the slop bike!

Thanks for your advice everyone. I'm back with my sweet new (old) bike! Talked him down to $80. It's not good lookin' but it weighs less than my purse.
Can't wait to take her for a spin...once the 10 inches of snow we're getting melts
Wow...congrats on the find! You got a deal! And welcome back to the tri. ;)

I'm getting back into triathlons after a couple of years off and am dying for a road bike, but I want to do it right and unfortunately can't afford to spend $700-2K right now. I was planning to just put some slick tires on the old MTB and wait until next year.
BUT...I just found out about a Fuji "Team" racing bike for $100. It's an older model but is in decent shape, assuming the fit is ok, should I jump on the deal? For $100 I shouldn't pass it up right? The new ones are going for $1850 and it's only 17 lbs. There's also a touring bike, same pricing. But I think I want the lightweight racing bike right?
I would appreciate any advice that anyone has to share! I'm planning to head over after work :)
Thanks!
