Well I am now officially a Multi Sport athlete. The Virginia Duathalon was my first Multi Sport event this year (or ever for that matter) and I had a great time. I got to the transition area about an hour before the race started and to be honest I was a bit intimidated looking at all the other competitors. But I remembered that I wasn't going to win so what do I have to be nervous about just have fun and race my race. So I started to set up my transition area with some help from other racers... there is more to setting up to up your transition area than racking your bike and setting your shoes down. After that it was off to the mandatory meeting. While I was there a very enthusiastic gentleman standing next to me asked "So are you excited?" by then I was starting to ask myself why did I sign up for this event and was feeling very nervous so my answer was "About as excited as I can be." but what I wanted to say was "Hell no I think I am going to throw up on myself!!". I think he could tell I was a bit nervous by my tone so he said "Is this your first event?" and I said "Yep" and we started to talk and he put my mind at ease which is what I really needed so Thank you sir who ever you are. The Unfortunate part of talking to this gentleman was I didn't pay attention to the race official talking about the course and the rules which would later bite me in the a$$. Now it was time to go to the starting line. On my way to the starting line I walked back to my transition area to take of the long sleeve shirt I was wearing because it was starting to warm up. Once I get to the starting line the horn sounds so I take off running... I am feeling pretty good... the weather is great and I feel good... then I get to the part of the run course where it would have been nice to know about but since I was mister jabber jaws I didn't hear there were hills on the run course and I have never run up a hill during any of my training. Since it was in the first mile it was know big deal but I have to so this again after the bike so know my brain is saying slow it down brother you got a long way to go. So I slowed my pace... keep in mind I am a newbie so slowing down my pace is crawling. I get to mile number 2 and here comes hill number 2 so now my brain is saying don’t kill yourself on the bike because you have to run these 2 hills again buddy. So I finish my run at 31:36.45, Overall place 362, Run 1 Pace 10:04. Now I head to the transition where I spent 01:42 getting my bike a putting on a helmet. Don’t ask why it took so long. So I mount my bike and I'm off. The bike route was really flat and consisted of 3 laps. The only thing that bothered me on the bike is when the peleton passed me... I didn’t think drafting was legal . I finish my 3 laps in 1:13:21.85, Overall Place 341, Speed 16.9mph. I head back to the transition to take my helment of and put on my running shoes and it took me 01:04 which was an improvement but still slow. Now it’s back to the run and those 2 hills. Well I didn't know my legs were going to feel so funny after getting off the bike so this presented another challenge to me it also reminded me to add brick work outs to my training plan. The second run was very very slow and uneventful I finished in 36:42.90, Overall place 358, Run 2 Pace 11:50 so that made my overall time 2:24:03.95. Afterwards I stuck around for the post race Bar B Que and camaraderie. Overall I had a great time. Since it was my first race does it count as a PR?? :D

Nice PR! Great first race...I am sure you learned alot.
No, drafting isn't legal and I see they posted some penalties (pings)
for drafting. I was supposed to go and didn't,but talked to a friend of mine who did..he said drafting was rampant.
Congrats on a First race and welcome to the club...

Anton your friend was correct drafting was rampant. The big excuse was "It's a short tight course with not alot of room to pass.". Well I dont know if you are fimiliar with the course but there was 2 lanes of road open on shore drive so I'm throwing up the BS flag. And I learned a ton. I am still trying to figure out how the race winners made it in and out of the transitons in 30 seconds.

The last time I did VA DU in 2004 I got out of T1 in :44 and T2 in :35. Pyro Pedals. Perfect for the old Creeds airfield course..."flat as a puncture." They are...ok, on hills and really only suitable for short course.
