Hello people,

I'd like to introduce myself as I did 2 years ago when I was also a newbie...how come you may ask ;-)

I wanted to start triathlons in 2006 after I ran a few 1/2 marathons in 2005, but I had to postpone my plans till this year as I was studying and I couldn't do work, family, study, and training... This year I just completed my first race 2 weeks ago (sprint ;-) and I look forward to enjoying every bit of this season.

I'm a male/35 and I'm currently training with the Broward County Triathlon Club which is just starting. If you are in the area and what to join us or you want to share with me how you train, maybe we can coordinate some training together ;-)

I'm a newbie so there is no much that I can help, but let me give you a piece of advice to all of those who are running their first races: "Hear what people say about placing yourself on the side of the crowd to start the swimming leg". I forgot that with all the anxiety of my first race and I really paid my mistake....Everybody swam over me and I started hyperventilating and stressing out....it took me good 2 minutes to find my spot and pace...after that the swimming leg was easy..but I was exhausted by then.

But it was a very rewarding experience and I learned for the future. I'll get faster with time, although I simply enjoy being out there and having fun....I only compete against myself and the best I can do.

Everybody take care and thank you all for sharing your knowledge and experience with everybody else. Newbies like me really appreciate it ;-)

Take care,

Jorge

welcome to the site and sport, and congrats on your first race! I'm sure you'll have stuff to share -- experiences, favorite snacks, etc. You'll have more with time, but I bet you have a number of training stories already!
