HELP -- Dealing with Stress and Training
If the HIM is your A race for the year I would try to keep the intensity for another two weeks or so before the taper begins. If it isn't then I would try to use the workouts primarily as stress release.
Is the stress hurting your ability to recover and rest? Is your schedule too busy to find time to train like you were? There are probably a bunch more questions to ask yourself in order to make a logical evaluation of how your decisions are going to effect your race day performance.
Good luck with work.
I have plenty of time to train, its actually a job change decision that once behind me should be OK. i think it is slowing recovery and adding fatigue...
I actually de-stress better the more I train (unless I'm stressed about training), going for a long bike or run allows me to vent and zone out and get away from things. I would say keeping your schedule regular is something consistent to count on in times of change and it's something that may help you now, maybe drop the intensity on a few hard days if you find you're not recovering well enough and add another recovery day in.
On of the most important things to keep up is good nutrition and consistent good sleep, as that will probably help you deal with the all day long part of it best.
I agree, you may need to consider toning down the intensity a bit, but for me (and my wife has realized this as well) I tend to be less stressed and calmer overall if I'm working out and eating well.
As important as Tri's are they can't be number one in your life. If working out harder releases stress for you cool man do that. If not and it's stressing you more then calm down some on the training. Something might have to give and it shouldn't be your livelyhood ya know what I mean...
I understand stress and training. I am in grad school, first year MPH (masters of public health) student. I have scheduled my HIM during Aug. so I could focus on school and get in as much training as possible during the summer. I get in my morning workout b/c I get up at 4am. Depending on research meetings, study groups, or student gov. responsibilites in the evenings I try really hard to get another training in. MOst days I can, but on the days I don't I try not to stress about it too much. I think that is the key, if you cant make it, dont stress. Training programs have key workouts for a reason, b/c they know life gets in the way of wishing you could be a pro triathlete.
Well thats my .02
Good luck!

How do you all deal with highly stressful situations during training? I am in the midst of a huge job stress. It's bad timing as I am just a month away from my HIM but it's also a great opportunity. Would you try to maintain the same training schedule, alter things, tone down the intensity, maybe increase the intensity???
