Through the last week I haven't been doing much running due to a nagging pain in my hip. Seems to be associated with the hip/thigh joint and hurts with the movement of the leg, not with the foot striking on the ground.
Seems to only bother me when running, and occasionally while walking. I'm getting frustrated because I can't seem to find a definite cause. Though I have noticed that the problem leg is noticeably tighter when I stretch.
At this point I'm just doing the standard rest, stretch and NSAID's. Anyone have any thoughts on anything else to do?
My 2 cents, with the caveat that I am relatively new to this as well: I was having similar problems and was advised to focus on strengthening my hip muscles as part of my lower body work, which unfortunately means you need to get on that hip machine at the gym. This seems to have helped me, but I would wait until the pain quiets down a bit before starting any strength work. Similarly, my low back pain has all but disappeared after implementing a core strenthening routine.
my training partner has a similar problem. she can run, but it hurts after. she went to her doc, who informed her that she has slight scoliosis, which is affecting her pronation. she was given core workouts to help strengthen her back and hip flexors. you might want to get it checked out by a PT or doc.
I have had some recent hip/gluteal/lower back issues. I saw a sports massage therapist and a personal trainer. The massage therapist is helping to relieve the tightness with deep tissue work. The personal trainer designed a strength and core training program for me to strengthen my muscle balances. It's getting better. I still can't run, but the elliptical trainer is pain-free! And quite boring I might add. Good Luck!
