Tri Gear???

I have been training for my first season of triathlons that will take place this summer and while my training is going great, I am pretty unprepared in terms of the gear required.
Swim: Wetsuit? I live in the Northwest and the water temps will be anywhere from 55~70 degrees during these tri's. I found a Blue Seventy Reaction suit for less than $200. Is this a good deal and a good wetsuit?

Transition: Do I need a bag? What exactly happens to all your gear at the transition area?

Bike: I will be renting a bike, so should I rent biking shoes? What kind of other gear will I need?

Like I said, I am completely foreign to the tri scene, so any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

to give trifuel a little money, click on the REI add that's been coming up recently. they've been pushing tri stuff, and they have a little primer on their site (i love REI, but honestly they're more of a dilettante when it comes to tri stuff; you'll find other stuff out there in your search)

there are a bunch of threads you can search for on this forum as well, especially in the newbie area...

welcome and good luck!

Welcome to the site. As tri-ac said there is plenty of info and helpful people around, so a search will probably turn up more info than you could use.

You'll probably want a wetsuit given those temperatures, but there are rentals available from several sources. Try to find a local shop if you're going to purchase to make sure the fit is right.

You probably want a bag for all your gear, but any bag will do nothing special required.

Shoes will depend on the bike, and specifically the pedals. If you're not using them regularly, you probably want to stay away from clipless pedals for the race. Which then means you can ride in your running shoes.

What distances will the race cover?

You can get a rental from trisports.com and then if you decide to buy a wetsuit and go through their site you get the cost of the rental credited toward wet ever wetsuit you buy. Its a good idea so you can try out the wetsuit if you never have before and then get 65 bucks off if you buy one from them.
