Are tri suits faster in the water? If so how much faster? I am looking at the spped suit from pearl izumi because I can get a good deal on it, but I am not sure if it is worth it. I am only considering it because I will be doing the Florida 70.3, which will probably not be wetsuit legal. Any advice???

One thing.... My longest race is almost a half IM and last year I coursed all the last part of the run for having a 1 piece suit. If you have to pee you almost have to strip down (yep I´m not into peeing while running in my clothes). So if where U I would get a 2 piece suit for your 70.3

Hyperactive Trifueler!!!! (I refuse to let the status go :p)

There aren't a whole lot of advantages to a "trisuit" as compared to a two-piece. The more expensive trisuits and two-piece are made with super hydro/aerodynamic materials. If you want something more wetsuit like that is legal when it's too hot for wetsuits are the incredibly thin skinsuits that a lot of the pros wear at Kona. I know BlueSeventy makes something like a 3mm neoprene suit that's meant to slice through the water.

I'll be the odd one out and say I like wearing a tri suit, especially for non-wetsuit swims. They feel faster to me than a swimsuit, and I know I clocked my PR 800M at a pool swim in a tri suit. On the other hand, I'm female so the TTP (time to pee) is not signifigantly greater in a tri suit.:p

I'm a tri suiter as well, and when i had to pee at Florida 70.3 I was lucky it had a really long zipper. I'm about to test Under Armors new tri line, so that will put me back in a 2 piece.

I've switched from a tri-suit to a two-piece simply because I hated having to almost completely undress to pee.

On top of that, I practically live in my shorts, so the tri-suit becomes even more inconvenient.

You're racing a 1/2IM....your clothing is not going to win or lose the race for you. Ok maybe if you tried to swim in jeans and a sweat shirt...but trisuit vs. tri shorts vs. nude...go with what you feel good in. There's a lot of debate whether the facny pants full body swim suits really makes olypians any faster in the pool. At best it's a mental thing...they FEEL fast.

I like my tri suit and I am suprised to hear all the men saying that they strip the whole thing down to pee! Just pull up one of the legs, couldn't be easier, what in the world are you all doing?!

I'm with Red and Ironmom...I love my trisuit. Even if you don't pull up the leg to pee (not well endowed, perhaps?), I'd imagine it's not hard to pull the top half down while running or riding no-hands, just like stripping a wetsuit. Then you're in the same situation as shorts anyway with no wasted time. Plus they're a good bit faster in the water, especially if you get a Fastskin.

no peeing in MY suit. In an IM i can stop for 2 min to squat (I am a girl) and drop the shorts. easier to do with 2 pieces. PLUS god forbid you have to do the other  (in an IM this is a possibility) want to get out of it as quickly as possible.
