I did a little mini sprint last night at the gym. I went 20 minutes on the bike (about 7 miles according to the computer), a 10 minute run (approximately 1.25 miles), and did a 1/4 mile swim (i didn't count time cuz it took a while). Those distances are about half of the tri i'm signed up for. While I wasn't a speed demon I had plenty of energy and i feel quite a bit left in the tank when I finished. It encouraged me but also reminded me that I have a long way to go before being able to turn in a respectable time.

Above all, it was fun!

Good. Yup gotta do some race rehearsals - gives you a chance to see how you are progressing.

Funny, I was thinking of doing the same thing tonight. But I'm an accomplished competitive swimmer, so I'm going to go through the whole swim distance, then do 7 mile bike and 1 mile run and 0.5 power walk. I can barely run - I am extremely new at running. I am well aware by the time my sprint event comes up at the end of July I may not be able to complete the entire "run" by running but I sure would like to try.

That is a good idea to do Mini-Sprints before hand to test yourself. What I did was make sure I could do the full in the gym before I did the real thing. It is always going to be easier in the gym. Just my $.02
