Aftermath of calf cramp
Completely normal. Get a massage if it starts becoming common. When it happens in the pool it usually doesn't affect my other workouts (run/swim) unless I get up on the toes. Pushing off the wall with your toes will only make it worse as will any jumping motion (ie jumping out of the pool onto the pool deck). You can stave it off by pushing from the quads on a flat foot against the wall. Electrolytes and hydration and stretching are important but inevitably we must get a massage especially if you are in the latter portion of your training cycle or training very hard.
I have had one or two of these years ago from swim practice. Hurt like the dickens then feels sore for a day or two.
Believe it or not my Sr year we had a new swim coach. Whenever anyone got a calf crap he had them squeeze their upper lip just to the side of center with their fingers. Said it was some type of an accupressure point. Swore he was a kook, but got one once and it actually helped ease the immediate pain. Remeber reading something about it years later.

Friday when I was at masters I got a cramp in my calf, as I often do. I take an electrolyte drink with me to keep it from happening too much but we were swimming hard sets and every time I pushed off from a flip turn my right calf would start to cramp. I could stretch it out and keep going and I managed to get to the end of the set without incident.
When I went to get out of the pool by pushing myself up to the deck my calf tightened up into a hard ball of serious pain. It was actually sort of funny because I fell back into the pool and started yelling 'OW! OW! MY LEG! MY LEG! OW!' The life guard told me to grab my toes and stretch and that made it go away. I used the ladder to get out of the pool.
My expectation was that the cramp was gone and that's that but no. I had to drive home using both my feet on the brake because my leg was weak and quivering. Then my calf was sore all weekend. I was going to ride and run on Saturday but I couldn't walk without limping. It was better Sunday but still sore.
So what's up with that? Is that a real injury? I was sort of stunned by the whole thing and I didn't workout all weekend because I just didn't know how to assess the soreness.
Does anyone know what this is about? Any help/advice you have would be great.
TIA
