Hey Everyone,
I'm in a real jam here its time for a new bike and I'm on a real low budget and can't afford to put more than 800$ in to a new bike. I've been looking on Ebay because that's what most of all the trifueler posts say to do when this post comes up,Well I've narrowed down my searches to 4 bikes and they are:
Dawes lightning 1500 road bike 449$
Dawes lightning 2300 road bike 549$
Quintana Roo Trueno 699$
Windsor RWT 745$
All these bikes are on Ebay. I would really appreciate any advice anyone has on these bikes as I'm a newbie and have no clue as to which is the better bike for me, just to let you know I race in the clydesdale division and I'm 6ft tall and weigh 220, I know this plays a factor in a bike purchase. Thanks all hope to here from you. Brent

I'm riding a very old Nishiki prestiege, which has gotten me through my first season of sprint triathlons, but my first Tri this year is an olympic distance tri and I really need to get into something more comfortable and a little faster.

Brent, it would probably help if you posted the links to the bikes you're viewing on Ebay.

I'll assume that the Windsor and the Dawes are Bikes Direct type deals?

I'd probably say look seriously into the QR, since it's a well-known established tri-specific brand. I'd have more confidence in getting a frame that could be upgraded.

Yeah, definitely QR. There are a lot of brands on ebay that are strictly sold on ebay (Motobecane, Fetish, Leader). You don't want those. What they do is hang good components on awful frames, essentially undercutting legit dealers on the gruppo and throwing in a Wal-mart quality frame for free. Some go as far as to set up fake websites with fake MSRPs to dupe people into thinking they're getting a great deal (Fetish). People see something like "Ultegra" and assume the bike it's on is of the same quality. That's not the case....all you're getting is a Huffy that shifts well. QR, on the other hand, is a very solid company with very solid bikes. As long as it fits and is in good condition, you'll probably love it.

Careful there Gator. I've got a Fetish hardtail that I'm very attached to.

But that's basically the point I was getting at. As you said there are a lot of brands out there that are not going to live up to the reputation of QR, even though they may be hundreds cheaper and come with Dura Ace.

Bottom line, if you're going to depend on this bike for regular racing and training, go with an established brand.

Hey Guys,
Sorry about not including threads but I have no clue how to go about doing that, not all that computer savy. Thanks for the response so far. I'm seriously thinking about the QR, the only thing is I'm not sure about my size in QR and I was reading in other posts how sizes are different for different brands of bikes. Any suggestions?

Try this:

http://www.rooworld.com/bikes/2006/geo_trueno.aspx

You should be able to make some comparisons to your current ride and find the right size.
