My latest MAF TEst
Cool, I wasn't able to do my 1st MAF test last month due to an inflamed achilles, but I've been able to get back to almost full time running with my base plan over the last few weeks and have been steadily noticing my pace come down while my HR stays at the same level. I'm not a natural runner and will be much slower, but I'm anxious to see where mine comes in at this week when I do it. I've got 4 more months of base to go on my plan.

Wow...just saw all the crap this post of yours generated over on another nameless forum (ST maybe???). Definitely think that the majority of the posts over there are just to see who can flame who the best. Apparently, according to them, the fact that your tests, or the fact that I'm riding my trainer in higher gears and at a higher resistance level than I was riding at two months ago mean nothing. Now I know why I don't post on that site!!!!!!!!

Of course it's 'effing hard, it's IRONMAN!
Yeah, there are some fast dudes over there, but then you read post after post from some people then you hear their times and I think, man, you're posting like your a Kona champ and riding a $6,000 bike but doing a 6 hr HIM. I've learned some stuff from their posts but it's definitely not a beginner friendly site.
Just for giggles I think I'm gonna go ask a Hed vs Zipp question again on that site and watch the fireworks fly!!!!!

Seriously though, I think there is merit to this and it shows the results, and patience, of base training. To wit, last year was my first year of tri's. Now I was a former swimmer and cyclist back in the early 90's. I had never run until last summer and my first ever 5k was at the end of my first ever tri. Last year I simply tried to force myself to be a faster runner by going out and running as fast as I could as long as I could. Lucky I didn't get injured. Anyway, I simply wasn't getting much faster no matter how hard I was working. So I finally decided to get a HR monitor and an online coaching program and started base training at the end of December for IMWI. When I first started base training it felt like I was not working hard enough as I was used to going anaerobic on all my workouts often. When I first started running my pace at my zone 2 low end HR was 10 min/mile! It felt like I was walking. After only 2-1/2 months though I am now trotting along at 8 minute miles at the same HR and with the same level of preceived exertion. Same on the bike, I am going at higher gears at more resistance at the same HR as I was doing two months ago. So, for me anyway, I think this is an excellent indicator as to training progression and to show that base training is working. So for me I will be using MAF on the run, and when the snow clears we have a nice 40 mile flat bike trail not far from here that will be perfect for the test on the bike that I will be using.
So, with that said, I see from other posts you went with Zipps. You fool. Don't you know that HED's rule! (I just got my HED Jet 60/90 combo and can't wait to ride them!)

That's a sweet setup. They're both quality companies in my book. I just wanted new wheels with warranty vs used at the budget I was looking at.

We have had a couple of discussions of MAF Tests so I wanted to share my most recent one I did today. My previous test had me running 7:02's per mile at the top of my Aerobic Zone HR of 148 bpm. Today I went 6:42, 6:48, 6:48. I am sooo psyched to have broken into the six's. When I first did this test 8 months ago I was in the high sevens. Just goes to show you what a lot of base building can do. :D
