Doing a HIM during your "Build Phase"???
I'm doing IMWI this year as well. I am doing a HIM in June and another HIM in July. This year I am cutting out most of the sprints and such as they do get in the way of the training plan. It was a pain last year doing a sprint and then once finally getting home going out for a 4-5 hour bike or long run.
It is fun to race a lot, but a HIM is a better opportunity to work on your race day rehearsal. Nutrition - Pacing etc. Also, I will do the HIM at my IM pace - which is slow for a HIM.

That is kind of my plan, to stick to my pace and heart rates I plan on using at IMWI during this HIM. I just don't want to have it affect my following week's training. So if the race is on a Sunday I will take Monday off and get right back to training on Tuesday.

I scheduled mine at the end of a recovery week, so the 5 hours of the HIM will pretty much satisfy the training plan - and then I will just keep rolling with the plan.
I just have a hard time with trying to do sprints and not having that screw up the IM training plan.
Good luck with it - and hope to see you at IMWI - there will be quite a few Trifuelers there!

My one HIM this year will come 3 weeks out from IMLP and will be my last hard training weekend taper. This works really well for me.
For you it might or might not...
Your going to Morgantown on July 1 should be no problem...it will give you a chance to see where your fitness lies in the run up to IMoo.
I'm actually adding in a few sprints this year after ignoreing them for the last 3...will just train right through them...
Good luck!

Yeah, I'm not worried about recovery at all, unless there is an injury. I just don't want to be fatigued and not get quality workouts in for the following week. I see that my plan has a long ride (5+ hours) followed by a 1 hr run. I may just use the HIM in place of that workout for that day.

I am planning out my calendar for the season with IMWI being my main focus. All of my training is geared to that race. I will be doing 3-4 sprints and maybe one olympic, but I will not be altering my training at all to accomodate them, more like using them as workouts and practicing transitions and so on.
There is one HIM however I'd like to race, its HFP's Mountaineer in West Virginia. I was going to use it to work on my pacing & nutrition leading up to IMWI and also a gauge to see how my training has come over the winter. (I only have one HIM under my belt and on 4-6 hours a week of unstructured training I was on a 5:10 to 5:15 pace until I sprained my ankle on the run and walked 10 miles in pain!). Now that I've been putting in 13-18 hour weeks on a structured base plan I'm anxious to see where I will be when the Mountaineer comes July 1st. Problem is it is during my first week of the build period for IMWI. I have a recovery week leading up to the Mountaineer as my last week of Base, and am just thinking of using the recovery as a pseudo taper and using the HIM as a long workout.
I want to do this race but don't want to have it interupt my IMWI plan. Any thoughts on whether or not a HIM is too much to do in the middle of a plan for a Full IM?
