Great IMAZ Article...
Nice find, thanks for the link!
I can't do this race until 2008 (I was too slow to sign up in 07) but the info is still very helpful.

Nice.
I'd love to do IMAZ, but it is soooo dang early in the year. I'd have to do almost all my biking on the trainer. And that is not very appealing.

Doesn't sound very inviting, that brown water.
And the swim course sounds claustrophic.
Loops on the bike? well..
Loops on the run sounds okay, if the spectators hang around to cheer you on.
I won't be signing up for IMAZ anytime soon.
What do others think?

Well, I have raced 3 times last year in Tempe Town Lake and it's not too bad. It is very dark and murky but doesn't smell and tastes clean when you get a mouthful. In regards to the bike, I have also raced the most congested part of the bike course in and around the Lake. That does get a little trying, as there are a few 90 dgree turns you need to slow for, lot's of cones to contend with and it can get crowded. Once out on the BeeLine Highway, where 2/3's of the bike takes place, it's very straight and fast, so that makes up for the dinking around town part. The run, which I have also mirrored in last years races, is on a pedestrian path, sidewalks, and a few roads. It's flat and uneventful, just be ready to run on concrete.
Bottom line, it's a fast course and the weather tends to be good.

Of course it's 'effing hard, it's IRONMAN!
I thought the race looked good. In my experience all swims are "dirty" unless you get lucky enough to do an open water ocean swim. Most other bodies of water are a bit "shady" but that is just more motivation to swim fast so the germs don't get you!

I loved the course as it was in 2005 (when I did the race). I can't comment on the new one.
Why I liked it: I had a great cheering section, and they saw me after the swim, about 8 times on the bike, and about 6 times on the run. I also got to play a game: who has shown up to cheer for me now. Some of my family made it since they lived in Tucson, and some made the trip out to see me. And not all of them were able to arrive by the start (I had 1 fan then). But by the end I had 9 hugs to give after the finish!
Not only was it great motivation to see them so much, but it made for a more interesting day for them. At Vineman I only got to see them after the swim, 2x on the bike, and I think 5 times on the run (since out and back 3 times). So I guess I don't mind loops so much in races :)
I am stoked because I talked to a few people and they say it is pretty flat. The biggest thing to worry about is the wind...
Thanks for the article, Red5. I'll see you there!
