I am looking to cross over to Xterra racing just to keep it interesting and vary my routine. I am looking at the Scott Scale 30, the Trek Elite 9.8 and a new carbon cross country frame from Blue Bikes with my own build on it. These are all Carbon frames, so any input from people with experience on Carbon hard tails would be very helpful. Thanks!

I'm a Ti guy and ride a Dean Colonel Lite (sponsor bike from a few years ago). I have seen a lot of the xTerra guys on full suspension to save them for the run. Carbon hardtails are very fast and stiff and in my opinion the best choice for XC racing, but I could see the advantages to a light FS set up -- I have been looking atthe Fuel. I like it's set up.

I wouldnt go carbon for MTBing unless it is a race only bike. Too many possibilities for breakage. Actually, I know a guy that snapped a Trek frame at a race, so...

You dont save much weight with carbon over alum offroad because of the amount of material needed to make the carbon more break resistant. If you want light weight, go Ti.

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
