Wheels for training and racing?

I'm trying to make the most of my limited funds (can't spend a couple thousand on cool wheels) so I was wondering if anyone could suggest set of wheels that I could race with but would be sturdy enough to train on as well. Or since training wheels are cheap, possibly reccommend a more affordable race set that would give me some noticeable improvement without breaking the bank.

I have an old pair of Zipp 400s. They are pretty old (circa 2000?) and they don't don't seem to roll very smoothly. Would it be better to have a shop replace the hubs and use those?

people seem to be pretty happy with kysriums for both training and racing. You could also get a set of flash points (owned by Zipp) for about $1000 and then by some cheap training wheels.

If you think the rims on the old Zipps are OK, the hubs may just need to be overhauled. Or maybe contact Zipp to see if you can trade your old wheels for a discount on a new set.

As for other wheels, check out some of the wheels from Bontrager. I've been training on a low-end set (about $250) and have used them for a couple of races and been very happy.

Or check out E-bay.

My wife just bought 2004 404s (clinchers) with less than 1000 miles on them for $765, skewers and tires included.
