Transition in Cold Weather

I just did it with no top on and threw over a fleece top... Then again my T1 has always sucked so take it for what it's worth I guess.

I swam with no top and then threw on the dry top in T1 and had a sub 1 minute transition

My first race of the year is in 2 weekends – 3/10. It’s a sprint – 500yd Pool Swim, 20K Bike, 5K run. The weather in NC can go either way, could be warmish or could be really cold. I’m not sure what the weather was like last year but the average High is 62 and the average low is 36 with a morning start (9am). Last year’s transition times were fast even for exiting the pool to T1 outside – some sub 1 minute.
My question is what do you do in cold weather for a fast transition? If you just do the typical swim in your tri-top/suit and go straight for the bike, don’t you risk hypothermia from your wet top? Do you swim no top and zip up a windbreaker top – regular tops are a real bear over wet skin??
