I'm not one given to excessive hyperbole over gear, especially in regards to the bike. I think any high end bike is as good as any other and the only real difference is in the marketing.
Having said that, today I went for a ride that I did last week and wore my LG Rocket for practice. Last week when I did this ride it was a bit warmer but today was more windy. Last week I did the ride on a Thursday and today I did it coming off of a rest day. Having qualified that....OH MY GOD! Aero helmets really work. I was more than 4 min. faster over 49 miles, I averaged 22.3mph last week @ 143HR and today went 23mph flat @ 144HR today. I am amazed at how different it all felt, especially going into a headwind. It's just felt easier to hold pace and cadence better than when I wear my Bell Sweep R. It also gave me a chance to really practice staying low and aero on the bars, I only sat up a few times to climb some steep hills. Again, there are so many variables in trying to compare training sessions but I can't say enough as to how different it did feel.

That is good news. Last week I ordered a Giro Advantage. It won't be in until May though.

That is great to hear, you make me feel better about ordering my LAS chrono helmet. My dad gives me a hard time about that one. :)

Yeah, I just ordered the Giro advantage as well. Can't wait for that puppy to come in. I know people are going to pass me on the bike in long course events and think that guy has aero wheels and an aero helment and I just left him in the dust - but I take pleasure in passing them back on the run when they are blowing up from going too hard on the bike. I will take any free speed I can get (although $2000 buks for wheels and helmets isn't exactly free).

you guys are so lucky! no aero helmets are approved for racing by the Australian standards board so it looks like I'll be stuck with my faithful atmos!

i would love a giro advantage.

That's good news, really. My sponsor got me a LG Rocket for 2007... can't wait to try it out! It's still snowing up here...

That's awesome. I have heard over and over, that aero helmet beats aero wheels anyday -- of course both is nice. I am in the market, but since I live in the deep south I want something that won't get too hot...

Aerodynamically speaking, is there going to be a big difference between an LG Rocket and an LG Chrono?

...well, not that it's relevant to our discussion, but NC is not considered deep south. Sorry, I'm a geography nerd! :)

You know, I ordered the Bell Meteor II -- and resold it immediately. The thing was just SO unconfortable to wear. The size was right, but having that thing over my ears was just such a bother. Maybe other helmets with less constraining earflaps (or the Rudy one without earflaps) would be better ... for me, I'll race in my Sweep R. A few minutes of lost time is well worth the sanity I'll have with a breezy head.

Take this with a grain of salt though, as I do have pretty big and sensitive ears.
