I ride a Specialized Transition and I really like it, the only issue I have is the aero bars and handle bars, which if you get the Transition Pro, it comes with a decent package, but i have a Comp. and I am looking to upgrade the aero bars. Other than that, it is not that heavy and it is really comfortable, I really feel like I got a lot a bang for my buck. I paid $1200 for my 2006 Transition Comp. brand new, and I just got some 404s so I am excited to get the season started. The other down side that comes to mind is that the 2007 models have kinda ugly colors.

I just picked up a new '06 Caliente and have put a little over 300 miles on it in 2 weeks. I don't have a single complaint. I was riding a 2004 Ketstrel Talon as a road bike with clip ons and decided to upgrade to a full Tri-bike. Bought a set of 606's and am ready for the season. The caliente is super smooth, but so was the Kestrel. Both have been great bikes for me so far.

+1 for the Specialized. I'm starting my second season on a Transition and have been very happy with the bike.

Though given the price range you're looking in, I'd try to get as many test rides as I could and decide on fit.

Just out of curiosity, why no Cervelo? p2C seems to fall into the same price point and is a SOLID bike.
