The week that was....
224 miles on the bike, 36 miles run, 11,500 yards swimming.
Hi,
I am new to triathalons and am curious about training in general. Is this a light week for you, or is it normal to run and swim relatively little for triathalons with the idea that the longest leg is the bike so you spend more time on the bike?
Dan
It's tricky trying to fit it all in. When you're running high mileage, there are a lot of 8-10 mile easy runs. More typical for tris is replacing some of those with moderate cycling. I've been doing 50+ mile weeks lately (not normally considered high mileage, I know, but it's a lot for triathletes), but at the expense of cycling time. As long as you're getting in a long run, tempo run, and track work, extra miles are just that...extra miles. They'll help, of course, but sometimes time is better spent in another discipline. Specific training will differ from person to person. I've been running a lot because it was my running that held me back last season. My plan is to even out my training a bit later in the season to be about 200 miles biking, 40 miles running, and 15k swimming, which is still a bit run-heavy. I'm not a coach, but I hope this helps.

Some weeks I often do 15000 yards per week. I have a coach and he dictates my volume very week. Some weeke I will run a more, but from a mileage persepective, the bike is laways the most.

Impressive!
Off the wall questions, but do you know your daily calorie intake and sleep?
I can't imagine what racing a sprint would feel like with your base.

I know my base metabolic rate is about 2200 calories but I don't count calories per se, I just watch my wieght and make sure it doesn't go too low. I get 8 hours of sleep per night. :)

Congrats Red!!
I skipped almost all my training last week due to a very serius cold and bad weather here. I´m just waiting to get out of it completly to go to the Doctor and get a shot so I don´t get sick again during this season this sucks. Luckly I´m not into my A race training yet but my first race of the season is 2 weeks from now so it realy sucks. Let´s see how it goes.
You are going to kick ass on IMAZ man!!!!! Keep on going!
Hyperactive Trifueler!!!! (I refuse to let the status go :p)

No, I feel like the wuss:
S 4700 yds
B 52 mi (usually it's more but it's been cold here in S. FL and I have no winter workout clothing)
R 15 mi
Although I also did 3 intense heavy bodybuilding workouts of 2 hours each.
Very impressive Red5
Keep in mind, my A race is less than 2 month away and I live in Phoenix AZ, so training weather is awesome.

I am SOOOOOO jealous you get to train down there for the race while I am here doing it all in the rain and <10*C (<50*F) weather :(

Amazing. I'll be there someday. Weve seen single digits and heavy snow all week so lots of treadmill and trainer time for me. Keep up the good work

I'd kill for 50*F right now. We hit 30*F today for the first time in over two weeks. Last week our high was about 11*. Apparently living in the snow belt of Northwestern PA does not bode well for outdoor training.

Ditto on that man. I am such a hater right now Red. Keep them miles up dude. I am right there with you but most of my miles are all inside :( (well except for the run, I will run as long as it's above ZERO)
