Profile Aero Drink splash plug keeps popping out.
I like it except when you hit a bump the yellow "poly web splash plug" keeps popping out and falling onto the roadway.
I was amazed at some races at the number of the those yellow plugs on the road. I have the same set up and the only problem that I ever experienced was that on a remote occassion the plug fell into the bottle - and that takes only a few second to reposition it. Never had one pop out.
Perhaps mine is of a slightly different design. My plug is about a 6 foot long yellow nylon piece of mesh - just coil it up and wedge it into the opening. The ones I saw on the road didn't look like they were wound up put were a ready made plug.
Your idea is a quick fix to prevent it.

I use on of those mini mesh bath sponges on a loop of string-purchased at Target for $1. I thread the string-loop under one of the black rubber bands and run the sponge through the loop(basically tying the string to the rubber band). Then I shove the whole sponge into the opening. The sponge is slightly bigger than the yellow thingy, so it stays in place fine. To refill, I pull the sponge out, but the string keeps it from ever flying off the bike. Untie and wash at the end of the ride.
This is good stuff! I've lost two of those stupid yellow sponges...maybe in my next long race I'll still have the thing at the end of the bike! Thanks, guys!

Not fast enough.
Thanks for the great suggestion. I've had mine pop out in a race. The first time I managed to catch it but a few minutes later it popped out again and flew into a spectator. He was nice about it and held it for me until the end of the race and brought it too me. I'll try the zipp ties. Thanks again.

Great suggestion.
Another suggestion would be to buy the Jetstream aerobar water bottle. It also has a sponge, but this sponge really stays in place because of the lip/countour of the bottle. It's designed for the sponge. The only thing that pops out it some fluids if you go over a bump and you filled it up to much.

try a system where that will never happen.
check out OasisOne-Twelve.com
it is a closed system so no spilling and its is also hands free.
can be mounted on down tubes or behind the seat in single or dual bottle set up.
I actually had mine pop out and when i finished the race i noticed a little boy playing with it, and unraveling it, now i need to kinda work to get it back in, but it does not come out any more, so try unwrapping it some.
never had it fall out, but a great idea. Thanks for sharing!

eheheeh yes iindeed :)
I too see these yellow thingies all over the race course. Mine is always seated in there pretty well. How is that they are falling out? I've never lost one. Good idea though.
Mine came out the first race. I went and bought a jetstream sponge and put it in there instead. Works like a charm : )

Just bought a Profile Aero Drink bottle for my new Felt S22 (!) but so far haven't been happy with it (the bottle, not the bike). I attached the bottle with the rubber bands as per the instructions but the bottle bounds and rattles all over the place. I get splashed with Gatorade every time I hit a bump and yes, the yellow stopper has popped right out (mine came pre-rolled into a donut shape). I will probably but the adapter to cut down on the vibration - but is the splashing common? Anyone have any problems with the adapter?

The adaptor mount by itself isn't much better than the rubber bands. Adaptor PLUS rubber bands, however, works very well.
The guy at my local tri/bike store told me to uncoil my yellow mesh thingy all the way and then randomly stuff it back in and pull it to the sides as you do; did this and have never had a problem with it since.
I also didn't trust the rubber bands, but the adapter with an extension on the velcro strap works pretty well.

That's was until a friend (Tom B) showed me a tip on how to fix it.
I have this setup: http://www.profile-design.com/2006_product_pages/hydration/aerodrink.html

If this has happend to you here's a neat fix. Go to the local hardware store and purchase some zip ties (http://www.9thtee.com/zipties.htm)
Make sure they are longer than the width of the opening on the top of your aero bottle. I use thin ones that are only about 1/8" wide.
Now drill a couple holes through the side of the top rim of the bottle. Drill them on opposing sides. Hole size should be about the same as the width of the zip tie.
It's your choice if you want to drill them side-to-side (90/270 degrees) or front-to-back (0/180) I guess it depends on what you feel is more aero.
Now insert the yellow plug. Then take a zip tie and thread it through the hole, though the plug, then through the opposing hole. Now take a second zip tie and "zip" it onto the first zip tie on the receiving end. Cut off the excess of the second tie with a scissors or wire cutters. And Whalla, it'll never fall out again.
To remove and clean simply cut off the zip ties then install new ones. They only cost a few pennies each.
