I am plotting out my next 12 weeks as I gear up for my HIM on May 5th. I have been following one of Joe Friel's plans and have seen great success thus far. Here's my question, if you were going on vacation the week before the race, what would you do? That will be a peak week so volume will be down and the week of the race is a "race" week. I am debating on how seriously I take the peak week. We are going to Disney World with the kids. I can bring my bike, etc and try to get the plan in, but I'm worried I'll be stressed if I miss workouts. Or, should I wing that week, get in a few light runs, maybe swim and make sure mentally I am relaxing....

Any thoughts???

Honestly just keep your body fresh dude... It's really not that critical just get your body moving I think should be enough. But then again that is all hearsay I am no doctor or proffesional trainer, but I did stay in a holiday inn last night... (and I have done a HIM :) )

Awesome :D

I've heard that some of the workouts during peak/race are actually so you mentally feel like you're doing enough to prepare, but in reality, keeping it easy, but the jiouces flowing is key. I can be real mental though and am thinking I might stress out unless I say -- take it easy, get out a few days and have find with the famliy

I wouldn't worry too much about it. The week before my Half IM I did very lite stuff, the kind of thing you can probably do early in the morning before "It's A Small World" opens and tortures you with that damn song stuck in your head all day!!!

Keep it easy... Most athletes tend to do too much the week before a big race and a vacation will hopefully do the most important thing, which is rest.
