Does Yoga help back and hip pain??

I find as I get older, I have more aches and pains in my lower back and general hip area. I do some core strengthening and stretching exercises, but it doesn't seem to be enough anymore. I thought about doing a power yoga class for one hour 2 x week. Any thoughts?? ( I am a 40 something age-grouper triathlete.)

I'd suggest rather than power yoga (related to ashtanga) some of the other forms (hatha or iyengar) that focus more on holding postures and breathing. For me, I've found I get better stretches out of these slower forms of yoga. I have fairly tight hip flexors and legs so I can appreciate where you're coming from. But, if power yoga is all that's available to you, it'd be better than nothing. My .02

Here is an informative article written by Mike Boyle about yoga. Mike Boyle is one of the most sought after strength and conditioning coaches in the country. His ideas and thoughts are straight forward and to the point.
