What is the best way to clean/wash a bike ? When it rains there seems to be sand all over the place and after races or long training rides I notice the sugar from the gatorade or accelarade on the frame. Currently I just use a damp cloth. Any products recommended ?

I'd stick to the damp cloth and maybe some very diluted degreaser for tough stuff. I like to wax my bike every now and then to make stuff easy to remove.

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

For just normal everyday muck, a damp cloth works. I also try to completely strip my bike and rebuild it every couple months to get the entrenched dirt, and to regrease everything.

there was a bike mechanic on the tritalk podcast one episode who recommended using windex.

haven't tried it yet, it's a little to cold for riding here still, and we just got half a foot of snow this morning.

When I was a shop rat we used to prefer Pledge on the frame. Worked like a quick polish. Good shine and some protection from dirt buildup.

I use simple green and/or a damp cloth.

I've used Windex for a couple years ... works just fine. You can also use a generic citrus degreaser (next to windex in the grocery store) on your chain, frame, anything. No need for expensive stuff.
