Macca
remember reading about his ITU world championship win where it came to a sprint finish. pretty intense guy. but I like him too. I think the feud between norman and him will be a good thing. can't wait for the rematch on alii drive next year.
proud and high or low and humble - many miles before I go

I'm a fan too -- he ran is a$$ off with that 6:15 pace to real in Norman. I was a cyclist first, so I loved seeing a crushing bike split be the deciding factor, but also very competitive and loved the "brief" coverage of their battle. He does seem pretty funny and laid bacel -- typical aussie
not to boast, but i actually train with macca now and then. I often rock up to the local tri club in Sydney which he is a member of, and he comes to our running sets when he is in the country. I will tell you that he is the nicest, most patient, genuine guy that is on the triathlon circuit, he has time for everyone and any of their issues in the sport.
when your that good, i think your allowed to be a little cocky.
Speed Kills. Strength Punishes
I was watching Macca on a Tri video he had a little portion called Macca's Minutes. Seems like a cool guy.
anyone who can break 8 hours in an IM has some right to be cocky, but its cool to hear that he is pretty chill,
gotta like that about tri, our elites dont get attitude like in so many other sports,
and a 6:15 pace off the bike in hawaii !?! thats sick, all respect
D
Damn I can't even run a 6:15 on a 5k :(
Yea aussies are cool people, and can be a little cocky. So long as your performing though I guess its alright to back yourself against what I can imagine would be endless attempts by the media to - how can I say it - "bring you down to China town"?
I agree, he is very passionate, lots of others are just too scared to say thats what I want for fear of people knowing they didn't reach thier goal. I wonder how much of it is him trying to psych himself into giving it all. He writes alot of cheques and has to back it up or live with the pain of not getting there.
Being so approachable is a characteristic particular to alot of aussie athletes. Its part of our culture not to get too big a head, as we don't like "Tall Poppies over here".
He will win this year...but I'm biased!

Just read a cool article on xtri.com about Macca. Having been in this sport for only about three years, I have to admit that he wasn't really on my radar screen like Reid, DeBoom, Paula, and Badman, but I have come to really like the guy recently. A lot of people say that he is cocky, but like he says, cocky and passion shouldn't be confused. Anyway, even if he is a little or a lot cocky, which I don't think he is, I like how he brings emotion to the sport. Anyone who watched as he chased down Stadler has to love the guy...I mean, spit, snot, discharge, whatever you want to call that stuff forming around his mouth like a rabid dog running down Stadler and giving it all he's got, with that grimace on his face...I loved it. Plus he is funny - his comment about sitting at home and watching the Ironman and it looking easy and he though he would come to Hawaii and float to the finish line and the pretty music would kick in - classic.
Anyway, in a sport whose stars have to be so focused mentally, that they often forget to relax and let loose, Macca is a refreshing departure from the other pros and I can only hope for more people like him as I continue to follow the sport. Also, I hope he kicks Stadler's ass this year...in Ironman that is.
