What Do You Do After Your Long Run?
I have been doing some light cycling and then a good long stretch after my ride. Keeps the soreness to a minimum.
Help me raise money for the LAF by donating anything that you can. Thank you so much!

A real good stretch, warm shower, and try to sneak a nap in if the wife and kid are not looking. Rest is the key to being, and staying healthy.
The day after I usually do a 45 min. to an hour swim with drills. Light lifting at night.
When marathon training I liked to go for a 5-6 miler at an easy pace to speed recovery. I never seemed to recover as well if I took the day off completely.

I used to be like that. 5 miles at very easy pace. im wondering if running the day after a long run is smart, with little aches and pains. This used to work, but this year its been different. I am thinking cycling instead.

As long as you stretch well and listen to your body, there's no reason that you can't run the day after. I did 12 easy (~7:00) then 3 moderate (~6:15) yesterday afternoon, 5 easy this morning, and I'll do track tonight. Typical track workout is 5+ x 1k at 80 sec pace or 6+ x 8 a bit faster plus a few miles warm-up and cool-down, and that's a typical Sunday/Monday schedule for me. I'll take an ice bath after the track workout, and I haven't had any injuries or anything. As long as you don't jump into stuff too quick and listen to what your legs are telling you, you should be ok. I live with a couple XC guys and they do the same thing, albeit much, much faster.

Not fast enough.
Rest, stretch, a long slow walk with the dogs. If I run on the day after the long run I'm useless for a few days after that.
looking forward to when ~7:00 feel easy. lol. I usually swim or just take the day off. Depends on how I feel.
The day after longs I usually bike a tad or am off...maybe a short swim.
If I'm training for an ultra, then I'll slot in a few back to backs...18 Saturday and then 10 Sunday...that sort of thing...Have been playing with a few things the last few years though.
1. Long run with a long bike the next day...all the aerobics but easier on the legs.
2. seperating my long workouts by several days.
Thursday long bike Saturday long run...something I picked up from "Going Long" This is how I'll train for my IM's this year.

I do my long run in the morning, them easy swim in the afternoon. Next day is easy form focused ride and weights.
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
I usually just go for a walk in the afternoon and a snooze after dinner.
I usually don't do anything the next day as my legs are knackered.

"Knackered!" I love it..haven't heard that since I used to go climbing with some lads from the UK...

Right now I've got league volleyball on Sunday nights after my long run - probably just what I shouldn't be doing: leaping and diving. But the next day is my easy distance swim day (though I have karate with the kids in the morning, and I always pray they won't make us stay in some low stance until my legs collapse).
Bottom line: I probably should be taking it easier than I do, but I love my other sports too much to give them up.

Not only knees an ankles, everything! I broke my arm playing soccer, fortunately I only had one tentative race for the season left, but now I'm afraid to play during tri season.
After my long run, I go for a huge stretch and eat a veggie omlette (second favorite part of the run).
The day after, if I'm marathon training, I usually have a semi-long pace run. If I'm just tri training, I usually do a longer distance low intensity brick. When I'm not training for anything, its usually a rest day or a swim or easy run to stay loose.

Mmmm...the post-run treat! It's probably my "first" favorite part of the run :D
After my long run, I do, a really serious strech routine...then a wam shower, or ice bath sometimes if I feel too sore, then a nice recovery shake...and a good meal...at home or out...
I take the rest of the day easy...
Next morning, I am all out for a nice easy run maybe 5 miles or so...at an easy pace...and some bodyweight excercises after...

I always do at least 10 minutes of yoga stretches after running (and biking). I'd do the ice bath but its too darn cold right now! I used the rollerball on quads and soleus when I got home. Today I went for a 30-mile easy spin, and my legs feel great!

Yeah I know! I do try to be good about not being too aggressive on diving for the ball these days and I do have a good set of knee pads. But there's too many fun things out there in the world to give them all up for Tris. Well, at least I don't skydive much anymore :p
Then again, talk about dangerous - the last serious injury I had was in a triathlon! (got my toe dislocated by another swimmer in the swim at IMFL)

I also play volleyball a couple of times week and I love it. Its the best team sport ever...well, besides football.
After a long run, I like to walk for a while. Then after a long session of stretching the whole body, I eat some delicious food. Depending on the intensity of the run and how long it was, sometimes I like to swim. It feels so good.
And by football, I'm going to assume you mean what we in the U.S of A call soccer, right?
My schedule usually involves a short, easy ride right after the long run to loosen up a bit. The day after is an easy swim day.

Hi All-
Just wondering what you all do the day after your long run. Do you rest completely? Get a massage? Light swimming or cycling in zone 1?
Thanks all!
