Upper foot/lower leg pain
From a medical point of view my friend...
I would say that your injury sounds more like a tear in any soft tissue around the aread that jurts..particulary if is tender at touch...Now I am assuming...the only way...would be first put my hands on and examine you, and maybe order an US, or at least an X-Ray....
Now bottom line, might be a good a idea to give it some rest...taking in consideration that you are doing excercises that do not cause impact....like running...
But rest, and maybe a neoprene bracelet to your foot is a good start...and don´t be so hard on docs...as athletes we always want the magical secret to get cure without having to stop doing what we love....but sometimes...is better to rest...elevate...and nurse the injury...
Without proper care the simplest injury can lead to something that might put you away long.

Ask around your local running store or bike shop or tri club for a good sports med, ortho or physical therapist that works well with athletes. That's the best way to get good care from someone who understands that you want to keep doing things but prevent injuries and heal at the same time. They also will understand that telling you to sit on the couch for two weeks is not the best method of treatment.
It is certainly possible to hurt your ankle/achilles from pushing off the wall too hard in your swims. If you haven't done so yet, try easing up on that for a while.
Good advice guys. I'll be going in to see a non-western doctor who over the phone was able to tell me a hell of a lot about what was causing this issue. I was pretty amazed at her knowledge--she didn't just say, "rest for awhile and take ibuprofen" which is all I hear from doctors unless a bone is sticking out of my skin. I know I should be resting when I'm injured, but there are recurring problems that I know are caused by something I'm doing and are preventable...to some extent...I hope.

My right foot is swollen and sore (and has been for weeks) in the area of my ankle/lower shin between the ankle and the achilles tendon on the inside of my foot. I thought that running was causing this (I had shin splints, too) so I stopped running and focused on biking and swimming. Two weeks later it's still sore to the touch and I'm wondering now whether or not it's a result of biking and/or swimming. I'd go to a doctor, but years of experience tell me he/she would just say, "rest for a few weeks, take ibuprofen and call me next month if it still bothers you". Any advice/suggestions/recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
