Addicted to this awesome sport!
Hi Justin --
Just saw your video from your olympic as well... glad you had fun!
There is tons of knowledge on this site and in the people who are on it, so feel free to post things as they come up!
Glad you are getting more people into the sport as well... gotta share the love :) Curious though... you do say that you are a newbie... are you coaching them for tris in particular, and if so are you working with a more experienced coach or with an internet plan as a guideline or what? Fitness coaching is awesome and will help, but there is a lot of tri specific stuff you want to be sure the new folks don't miss!

I say I am a newbie in actually participating, but I have studied the sport of triathlons for years now. I read non-stop and keep getting a broader knowledge of the sport. I understand the very specific training aspects of triathlons. The more I keep learning, the more I will be able to assist the people in my tri-club.

Well best of luck to you, but be careful as well... I personally think it takes a lot more than book knowledge to become a great tri coach. A training buddy and giver-of-advice is, in my eyes, different.
I do think it's awesome that you are getting people involved, and don't read me wrong... I wish you the best of luck! :)

Nice job getting more people into tris.
I got my best friend to do the las two races with me ast year, and he had a blast. Its always nice to see that joy in peoples eyes.
Experience is the best teacher. Get out there and race more, its the best way to enjoy our sport.
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
Congratulations man, seems like you are a great enthusiast of this sport...and is so great that you are spreading the bug in your town...I wish you the best of luck with the club...be careful, and here in the forums there are great athletes and human beings that are willing to help everybody and share knowledge...
Best wishes my friend and keep posting

Thank you guys for the comments and feedback.
For my club, I have experience because I have participated in a few and I help motivate them to stay on a strict regimen. For me, I came to this site so I can learn from athletes that have much more experience than I do.
I am far from a "great tri coach", but by continuing to increase my experience and knowledge and learn from people on this site, I can become a better coach and help more people out.
Thanks again. Any advice is respectfully taken!

Welcome and congratulations on your entry into this fun sport. I coach a local women's triathlon group and have coached many people through their first tri, it is really fun to see people through their training and completing a first race, and how excited they are to have done that.
I'll echo everyone else and say that caution is probably a good way to play it. I've been doing triathlons for 20 years, and coaching for 5, and every race I do I learn something new. Book knowledge is fine, but there's a lot to be said for first-hand experience.
Best of luck to you in your endeavors and welcome here!

I think it's great what you're doing Justin! You seem amply qualified to coach these people, especially given that they're beginners and they're training for a sprint. Many people (like me) do their first sprint tri's with no training/nutrition advice at all and they do just fine! Keep up the good work!
Congratulations!!! I know what you are feel "hell it is adictive"!!!!
Keep on the great video editing and training.
Hope you don´t worry your girlfriend that much on your next open water swim :D welcome to the site!

I am considered a newbie in this sport. I have competed in three triathlons in the past year but I have decided to take it to the next level. I am training for a Half Ironman that will be in September and the goal is to do an IM in 2008. After that, I want to progressively get better and increase my level. I want to get good at these things. I have been working really hard to increase my speed, endurance, and mental game with training. I have a passion for my job, which is a fitness coach, and I love to guide people to their fitness goals. I recently started a Tri-Club in my hometown. We have 8 newbies training for a Sprint Tri. I am so excited to see these individuals and how they look and feel after this training program. We all know when we cross that finish line of the first triathlon, the feeling is exhillarating. I have an open mind and am always up to hear new ideas concerning training and nutrition that will assist in my overall knowledge.
This is a great site and thank you to all for sharing your thoughts!
