Luc Van Lierde holds the world record for the fastest Ironman time ever recorded (seven hours, 50 minutes and 27 seconds set at Ironman Europe, Roth in 1997) and also holds the course record at the World Championship (8:04:06 in 1996).

Course record for kona is 8:04:08 by Luc Van Lierde in 1998 for the men and 9:01:01 by Paula Newby-Fraser in 1989 for the women. This is going of wikipedia on the times, and im sure that there is a course somewhere that is much faster. But this is a pretty good estimate. Im guessing somewhere some guy has gone well under 8 hours.
