Lake Effect Snowshoe Du in Rochester,NY
Congrats! That sounds like a lot of fun. Now that I know about it, I think I will join you next year. Do you (or anyone) know of any other races like that in the PA-NY area? I am interested in those types of races whether it be a snowshoe race/ Du or a X-country ski triathlon, but I haven't heard of any in this area.
"Do just once what others say you can't do, and you will never pay attention to their limitations again."
A few of the guys there where talking about a X-country race of some sort but I really wasn't payng much attention. There web site says "Saturday, February 10th HS Nordic Ski Sectionals Nordic Ski Harriet Hollister, NY" Sounds like maybe a high school race. Google brought up

This was my first Du and it was a good one. Its dubbed the only USAT snowshoe Du in the country. Temps around 20-22F at the start, with a slight wind and snow. The roads were in such bad shape they limited us to only 6.2 miles on the mt. bikes. They were a solid pack of snow and ice. On the snowshoe portion there was an open creek crossing, though only a few inches deep, multiple tree's across the path and a few nice hill climbs. It was also only the second time I'd been in snowshoe's.
I had a great time and would definetly do it again next year. I heard a few grumbles about cutting the bike portion short but everyone seemed to have fun. I couldn't belive how fast some of these guys are. After, there was nice spread of food and raffled off some nice prizes.
I ended up finishing 8th overall out of 27. I feel great about it and can't wait till spring to run a few other's I've been looking at.
Thanx everyone for the great advice that I've gotten to help me get where I am.
