heated pool with cold air
I assume you mean when you are standing after a set. Jsut dip below the water only keeping your head up on a rest break. Otherwise you could wear your wetsuit or a skinsuit.
Have a dry towel/sweatshirt/pants very close for when you get out of the water. Then run to the hot tub.
edit:" sorry you're in Fla - what do you mean cool outside? :)
I find once I'm moving I'm fine
and yes, I live in CA but one morning I stepped out of snow and into the pool! It was fun ;)

Someone needs to cowboy up. Theres some nice fleece lined nylon trench coats made for swimmers in Keifer and otehr catalogs. They're pricey, but are VERY warm. We used em at a previous job, we'd get out of the water after 2 hours+ diving bottom time, and have to walk 1 mile back to the locker room with the shower. It always SUCKED untill we got those jackets.
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
I think he's more referring to while swimming, not while getting to the pool. I could be wrong though. It's been known to happen ;)

I couldn´t imagine using a wetsuit for practice (+ wouldn´t want chlorine anywhere near it).
Hyperactive Trifueler!!!! (I refuse to let the status go :p)
I have seen some people practice in the pool in a wetsuit. It can be good to get used to the different feel before a big race. But I'm with ya on the chlorine part and try to practice in open water when getting the suit feel since then I can also practice sighting! I've heard it isn't horrible for the wetsuit though as long as it is rinsed WELL in plain water right when you get out.

Haha! too true....
To the OP, I'm from SoCal so I know what you mean. Although it doesn't get nearly as cold as the rest of the US (or World for that matter) the outdoor pool that i swim in can be a bit nippy at 6am when it's 40 degrees out. I found that i was only cold for the first 200 yds or so. Then, my heart rate would get up a bit and I would start to warm up as my blood was circulating faster. Just stay in the water (from the neck down) when you are doing your rest intervals.
I'd be glad to trade places with you any day. Try swimming in a cold indoor pool in frigid MN in the morning in the winter. My only suggestions are, swim fast, keep your head below the water at the end of each set, maybe wear a swim cap...

Only 40?! Last week it was like 25 outside and I was outside in the pool. Basically you just need to suck it up, there are a lot worse things that can happen. I mean it could be raining too. The worst part is getting out and making it to the locker room before you freeze.
So I went swimming this morning, brrrr... The temp when I left the house was 0. I was hoping for luke warm water but that was not the case. It was so cold in the pool area there was frost on at least half of the emergency doors on the inside of the pool area. When I left, the temp was still 0, brrrr...

Uh-hem, we had a hard freeze warning last night. I know, I know, you think we sunshine state people always have warm weather...but it can get in the 30's here in central Florida in the winter. And, since we're used to heat and humidity, lower the temps a bit, and its darn cold. The blood really does thin out...
tcrunner...I TOTALLY understand ;)

it's a heated pool right? just do your set completely submersed!
but for real, it gets cold here too, I think you mean how do you keep your arms and that warm while stroking. Some of the girls in out team used to wear arm warmers (from the bike) in the water. seemed to work for them.
although as tri guy said. Cow Boy up.

I have a problem in Melaque Mexico the pool is not heated - 80 degrees and it feels cool, the air here with the wind chill factor is 87 degrees you should feel sorry for me.
The Camarones (shrimp) Diabla the sauce is hot and spicy and makes me sweat and makes my nose run.
You should be here I don't think you should go in that heated pool.
There are no out door pools open during the winter in Montana so shush!! Try coming to a place where it's been below zero every morning for the past few weeks. UGH!

Ok, so its cool outside but ur swiming in a heated pool. what do u all do to stay warm. Is there a long sleeve shirt that u can wear in the water to keep ur shoulders and arms warm?...or do you jus rough it like i have been doing?
