I posted a wek ago about taping ankles as I rolled my ankle last week. I thought I was getting better so I ran a short little 3 mile run today. It's still quite tendor. This is the hardest part of training for me -- recovering. I have my first HIM on May 5th and was making great progress. This week is a recovery week anyway so I think I'll keep from running the entire week.

Question I have is should I wait until it is 100% or just feeling a lot better. I really want to perform well in May and am mentally struggling wih how long I think it will take to recover.

Also, has anyone ever had the other foot/ankle begin to hurt after an injury? I think it could be compensation for the injured ankle, but now my other ankle is a bit sore....

Basically, I am whinning too, as I have been having ome of my best training over the past 8 to 10 weeks.

I would wait till it's 90-100% better. If you return to a full training load, then you risk doing more damage. I look at it this way: better to be out for a week or 2 than to be out of the event all together.
Also your event is not till may, so you have HEAPS of time to recover properly and get back to training, so don't stress. I was out for 6 months with an injury and my coach kept telling me focus on how good that finishing chute will feel, not how sorry you feel for yourself.

I'm with IM on this...
And yes, when one leg is injured we tend to alter our gait. This causes problems in the other leg. Some folks get caught up in a vicious cycle, so be careful.

Thanks guys -- I am feeling a little better today (mentally) -- just trying to say, I'd rather miss 2 weeks now (I'll still bike and swim) then have a chronic situation that keeps me from my event.

I fyou have 2 extra hours a week do Yoga 2 days.

Or at least 1 day (when you are healed) and you will avoid many injuries, you´ll see. Yoga has helped me. (well not that much for the cracked rib I got in New Year but that was not training or racing related so it doesn´t really count!!!! besides....no matter how much streching you do it will never prevent a fracture at least in most cases).

Just searched on "Ankle Injury" and found this post.

I'm dying over here! Like solidad in the original post I rolled my ankle yesterday and I'm feeling it now big time! It didn't hurt much yesterday after I did it, but this AM when I started running I knew it wasn't normal. I did .5 mi and stopped. So much for my planned 2x2mi @ T pace. I'm icing off and on at work today, but it doesn't look like I'll be running for a few days. So frustrating since all I was doing when I rolled the ankle was walking down the street!! Four weeks from my first sprint and six weeks from my first HIM of the season...let's just hope I recover quickly with the right rest and strengthening strategy.

Solidad, If you see this post let me know how your recovery went, and how the HIM goes this month!

Keep your fitness up with biking and swimming (assuming those aren't painful) and you should be ok... Hope it heals fast!
