I'm looking at possibly picking up a cyclo ops training for use over the winter months. I found this on the Trek website (I'm actually looking at a Trek branded cyclo ops trainer, same thing, different packaging).

You will also need to put towels down to mop up your prespiration, and perhaps use a secondary rear wheel as it will put edge wear on the tire.

Can anyone confirm for me that I am interpreting this correctly to mean some wear on the tire and not the wheel itself. That is what it seems to me, but I have never used a trainer and I just replaced my wheels last year due to some pitting/bearing issues and don't want to go through that again. Thanks.

Yes, typically I will use an older tire as the trainer will wear the tire. Once go back on the road will swap out for a new tire.
No issue for the wheel.
