For Women: Question about racing tops

Hello,

I've completed two sprint triathlons, and each time wore tops that were ... less than supportive. Anyone have any good suggestions for tops that can withstand both swimming and running? Seems like most of the tops I've found would be great for A- or B-cups, but anything over ... not so good.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Over the course of 20 years in triathlons, I've gone from an A cup to DD (nursing mom) back down to a B. The bras that I've worn in tris have changed accordingly over the years.

Right now I like the Hind Motion Sensor bra, and that's what I wore in IMFL - it's really comfortable and supportive with criss-crossing back straps that don't chafe even over a long day's workout. Usually though I'm swimming, biking, and running in my tri suit (which I chose not to do in the IM), and under that I just wear the top to a 2-piece swim suit, like a Speedo workout 2-piece.

When I was, um, bigger, I used to wear the Champion Action Shape Top (their blurb actually says it's the "#1 Choice of Larger-breasted Women.") and if that's not supportive enough, I know women who have resorted to "The Last Resort Bra" (which you can order from Title9Sports). Both titleninesports.com and roadrunnersports.com rank their bras by support level, which makes it easier to find what you're looking for.

Yes...I'm a guy but do have some advice... go to a GOOD local running store, not a big box, and ask for help. Better yet if you can find one that specializes in womens running or has a good cadre of women runners working there.
My wife needs a good bit of suppport and was always uncomfortable until she went to a local shop with a strong womans section and staff who took the time to fit her and make suggestions.

I have never found a tri top I will wear alone (if that is what you were looking for). I always go the sports bra underneath route, and just through trial and error have found a few that work for me. I'm going to check out the hind one ironmom mentioned though -- I like hind's stuff in general.

I've never found a tri top that even comes close to supporting above a B. Personally I'm not a fan of the Hind bra...the support just wasn't there for me. My current favorite is Brooks Pro Support . Great support AND it looks like I have two bumps on front, not uniboob.

I WAS very large breasted also. The best bra out there is the last resort bra which is actually made by Enell. You can order it at Enell.com or the places mentioned above. If you are inbetween the sizes order the smaller one. I had reduction surgery so I am a small C instead of a DDD++. I still wear this bra.

... if I've been approaching this wrong. You obviously can't change different tops between the swim and everything else (though interesting to see the response you'd get?), do people usually just put another top over their swim top? I'm a bit confused on this.

I'll check out the suggested brands, and consider working up the nerve to go to a running specific store and ask support questions. :)

I swim in the sports bra, often with a tri top over it. Then I bike in the same, and run in the same. If I don't swim in the tri top (depends on my mood... sometimes I wear one under a wetsuit even since they are harder to get on in T1 when you are wet) then I put a top over the sports bra for the rest of the day.
