I handed over my orthotics to my podiatrist today, to have them refurbished.
Is it safe to run in my normal shoes, with their original soles, without the orthotics?
It will take about two weeks for the orthotics to be completed.

didn't you just run a marathon a few days ago?

about the orthotics......I believe you said you ran for a while without them. I'm sure you'd be fine if it were short mileage.

Hey there-
Yea, I did do Disney Sunday.
I'm not planning on going anywhere over 10 miles for a few weeks, mostly cycling base and some swim work here and there.

Depending on the reason you use orthotics..you might be able to replace them, for the short term, with something like Superfeet foot beds.
It takes time for your feet to get used to orthotics and also for your feet to get used to no orthotics. If they are necessary for you run I'd keep it short (and I mean short) till you get them back.

If you just ran a marathon and have been injured, maybe take a real break and don't run at least until you get your orthotics back. It will take more than 2 weeks to fully recover anyways, and you shouldn't take a chance and injure something else.

Dude, after what you've been through, there's no way you're going to lose any running fitness by resting until you get those orthotics back.

Since you just ran the marathon, and you don't have your orthotics, I would recommend you do NO IMPACT until you get your orthotics back.

At most work on your swim and your bike and if you NEED to run, do pool running.

I think you keep getting injured because you never let yourself recover properly.

Nothing to it, but to do it

Sometimes you have to sit back and enjoy your accomplishments. This is one of those times. You just completed a marathon. Even the best in the world know that this is the time to shut it down for a week or two.

I took a full month break from any racing or intense workouts in any of the three disciplines after NYC in Nov. I now feel energized and completely healthy. It was the longest break I have taken in 8 years and it was the smartest thing I have done in a long time.

Yea, I did the bike a for a bit the other day, and things felt good. Going to take it easy for a bit, and let my body tell me when its time to go.

That's a great lesson, for those who can learn it,...listening to your body. It doesn't lie or gloss things over...listen to it..you'll know when it's time to go!
