Ankle Taping -- Any thoughts?
I tend not to tape, but that's because I've had some bad tape jobs. I've also heard the "bad for long term" thing, but I really am not sure if that is true.
Lately I (try) to either run on it if it doesn't hurt, or RICE and wait. Or run on it with minimal pain and RICE after, which seems to be what happens -- but don't take that as what I'm saying is a good idea!
If you are planning on taping it for long runs, I would say it is not worth it. The tape will only hold up long enough to serve its purpose for a few miles (the tape will stretch- maybe even causing blisters from rubbing). I would recommend a few days off even if you can still run on it to avoid chronic problems down the road. A few days off will not hinder your training. Ankles are not worth screwing around with. If you don't give it time to repair, it WILL happen again. And that will be more annoying. continue with the RICE after you runs for a while until the pain susides(my opinion).
"Do just once what others say you can't do, and you will never pay attention to their limitations again."
Is RICE -- Ice? or am I missing a recovery technique? :o
rest, ice, compression, elevation

Not fast enough.
Many thanks!

As I put on base miles for Half IM training I am up to 30 miles per week with a long 12 to 13 mile run on hills during the weekend. After my last run, my ankle was a little sour but no big deal. This morning I turned my ankle slightly in a pot hole in the dark
I had heard once that taping ankles actually helped in the short-term but hurt in the long-term because the ligaments, etc. began to rely on the tape and weakened. Is this true? Should I tape it? It by no means feels bad enough to not run, just annoying?
