Buying new bike -- any suggestions?
I'm in a similar boat (keeping the road bike which is my commuter, and the mountain bike, and the current tri bike... but that's cause it's pretty), getting a fit, spending about the same, etc... And I'm looking at the Planet X Stealth Pro Carbon.
What spec kit is on the Planet X? Most the bikes I'm looking at are a DA/Ult mix and decent, but not great wheels. I too am keeping the MTB. I started out as a MTB racer and just can't bring myself to get rid of it. I ride it once and a while and if an XTerra every came close enough I'd try it. I am just hooked on this tri thing now!!!
It's a dura ace build with Reynolds Alta Race wheels (I don't know much about them though). It just looks like I might be waiting until they have an xsmall :( I'm not patient.
I'm newer to mtb than tris, but also can't wait to try an xterra! I just haven't gone to one yet, although a few are close enough.
I have a Plasma and I love it. It's the lightest TT bike you can get right now and it's pretty stiff. The Cervelo will probably be built a little bit better (Cervelos always are), but the difference isn't huge. My roommate races a Soloist for ITU and he loves it. I would definitely recommend one of those two.

Not fast enough.
Kyillee -- where are you buying the Planet X? Sounds like a nice spec package (although not sure about the wheels either) would love to check it out.
I have heard good things about the Scotts -- my first MTB was a Scottm then they were out of the country for a while and not selling bikes...
I have a 2006 Trek Equinox 11 that I am selling for less than you are looking to spend. PM me if interested. I am posting because I noticed you included an Equinox 9 as an option and of course the Equinox 11 is the next level up of Trek Bikes.

MDD -- I'm on a MAC and can't get the PM to work. I'll try again on my lap top
mdd-- can't seem to PM. I'm a newbie and it shows :o I am interested. What size is it?
Hey solidad --
Here is a Trek Eq 9 for sale on here: http://www.trifuel.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7422 (not mdd's bike though). Oh, and I did find the one for mdd: http://www.trifuel.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7404.
As for where I'm getting the PX, I've been working with Andy, who is one of their guys in the UK, and it turns out that their US distributor is in the Bay Area in California and has a guy in San Diego. So I'll be checking out the bike in SD and ordering it through the web. No where local to me has them.
Have you looked at the kuota k factor at all? Trisports or all3sports.com has the full package for about 2500.

Bike is a medium. I am 5'10 and the bike fits me. I would say it is good for anyone my height and taller. If you are shorter than me it might not work.

I actually responded to that one. I thought M were more lik3 54's but fit is really important. I am 5'8.5" and would hate to spend the money and it not fit. Though, that is one of the biikes I'd love to have.

You are correct. Trek does their sizing a bit strange, some people call it "Lance Sizing" since everything they do is based on his geometry and their sizes tend to run a bit larger than other brands.

I have the transition expert. Got it last year. I'm pretty happy with it. It's a good fit for me. Don't have much experieince with other tri bikes to compare it to though.
Already had to use the crash replacement for the fork. Dang garage.
Oh man jeslol, same thing happened to me about 2 years ago, but my wife was driving me home fro a race -- she felt aweful, but insurance covered it :)
Kyillee -- I am definitley going to check out the Trek -- I also have a line on a Blue, built up real nice AND I have some email going with Andy at Planet X -- THANKS A TON for the feedback...
Apparently it's something I need to do in order to iniate any new bike I buy. I did it to my road bike as well within only a month or two of getting it :(
no prob... But if you get yours before me I might cry a little ;)
I'm going to check out this Blue I had in the other post. Nice AL/Carbon mix frame,. DA/Ult mix and HED Trispoke front/Disc rear -- only a year old!
Hope it's a fit for ya!

So I've posted a few times about buying a new bike, keeping my road bike, etc. Here's where I am:
1) I am keeping the road bike AND buying a new Tri-bike
2) I plan on getting a professional fit in the process
3) I have ~$2500 as my budget
4) I want to buy it by the end of the month
Here are some of the choices I have narrowed it down to -- would love anyone's thoughts, experience with any of these bikes, etc. or if I am missing a good bike out there any additional suggestions would be great
Specialized Transition Expert
Cervelo P2SL pro
Trek Equinox 9
Scott Plasma pro (on the high side of budget at $2900)
Thanks!
