Progressing to Olympic Tri
Depends.
On your fitness level. And what you expect to do in the Oly. There is a big difference in completeing an OLY distance and being competitive.
If you feel comfortable with those distances - then go for it!

I'm not bothering about being competitive, I just want to finish in a time that isn't too bad.

If you just want to finish, I'd say go for it. Just find a training plan and stick with it, pace yourself on race day, and you should be fine.
Ya, the big jump to an Oly is for the swim typically - going
from .25 mi. to .9 mi. The bike and run are much easier to ramp up to. Like PJT said - get started on an Oly training plan and you will do fine.

Going from Sprint to Oly distance is nothing really. As long as you increase your mileage in training you will be fine. My story is April of 04 was my first sprint. It was so bitter cold that I didn't do another one till May of 06, then another sprint in June and an Oly in July with a HIM in september... It can be done and it can even been done competitively. It's all about how bad you want it.

I've got my first novie tri (400m Swim, 10km Bike and 3km Run) coming up in May. I also fancy taking part in an Olympic distance tri there is one taking place in Edinburgh in August.
Do you think I would be able to take part in the Olympic tri if I train well enough? Or do you think it's a stage to far for me at the moment?
Thanks
Grant
